The Positive Women app and the Stand Up Movement, from the global cosmetics company L’Oréal Paris, now offer free training to prevent harassment in public places in Brazil.
The training module is carried out within the Positive Women app. With about ten minutes, it presents users with various situations of harassment such as “Unwanted touches and hugs”, “Inappropriate comments about your body”, “Sexual innuendo” and “Public humiliation”, among others.
The situations are illustrated with videos that provide tips on how to behave to combat harassment.
The app is the local partner for L’Oréal Paris’ global Stand Up action, which aims to train 1.5 million people worldwide to become “Upstanders” – people who react when experiencing or witnessing harassment. The goal is to build a culture where street harassment is unacceptable.
In the Positive Women app, you can access an informative video about the movement, starring actress Taís Araújo.
In it there is a frightening statistic: 88% of women have already suffered some form of harassment in public places.
Self-defense and victim assistance
The Stand Up Movement started abroad, from the partnership between L’Oréal Paris and the NGO ‘Right To Be’, which was born in 2005 and in 2015 carried out the largest international study on street harassment, in partnership with Cornell University .
For Fabi Saad, entrepreneur and founder of Mulheres Positivas, a partner of the movement in Brazil, “harassment in public spaces is an experience that devalues women and men of all sexual orientations, cultures and beliefs, making them doubt their own experiences” , it says. “The more people who know how to defend themselves and help victims get out of embarrassing and embarrassing situations, the better,” she concludes.
Laura Parkinson, director of L’Oréal Paris in Brazil, adds that suffering or witnessing a situation of harassment arouses fear, discomfort and paralyzes, whether for those who are in front of the scene or suffering from the act, making us not know how to react.
“With Stand Up, our ambition is to create a social pact through the education of non-acceptance of this sad reality, especially for women. It is our duty as a women’s brand and world leader to support and bring about actions that raise awareness in society through education, debates and discussions, with the aim of creating a transformative movement,” she says.
their path
Training against harassment in public spaces arrives on the Mulheres Positivas app following the launch of another tool, called ‘O Caminho Delas’, which, through geolocation, points out, on a collaborative map, places where episodes of harassment and violence against women.
Through the tool, initially launched in Rio de Janeiro in July of this year, users can report situations experienced or witnessed to help other women in their displacements. The functionality, developed by the BETC Havas agency, is available free of charge on the Mulheres Positivas app, with support from TIM.
