A HBO Max has just confirmed that 2022, a Max Original production that will mark the reunion of great names in Brazilian music, is in the post-production phase. Created by Monique Gardenberg, the special will feature 22 songs, divided into two episodes, which show the best of Brazil.
2022 will celebrate the modernity, inventiveness and power of Brazilian music. The musical is an allusion to the centenary of the Week of Modern Art. The event, which took place in 1922, at the Municipal Theater of São Paulo, was a milestone in the history of the national artistic scene precisely because of the meeting of several names it provided.
The script offers a reflection on Brazil and confirms culture as an independent and indestructible force of a nation. The project also features behind-the-scenes footage with exclusive interviews and scenes for those who are more curious and love to see what goes on behind the camera.
The HBO production will feature 48 artists, including maestro Jacques Morelenbaum, Ludmilla, Chico Buarque, Zeca Pagodinho, Racionais MC’s, Elza Soares, among many others. The entire staging will be directly linked to the concept and purpose of the project to mix new and old names from different areas of Brazilian music.
While the music is celebrated by the performers on stage, the scenography will present works by new Brazilian plastic artists. The streaming service project will have a strong presence of talent from the periphery throughout Brazil. All guest artists and the full program repertoire will be announced shortly.
2022 is a WarnerMedia production produced by Dueto, for HBO Max. The general direction is Monique Gardenberg, who shares the curatorship with Hermano Vianna and Lourenço Rebetez, and the direction with Felipe Hirsch and Daniela Thomas signs the scenography.
