In July, when releasing its first sustainability report in accordance with GRI guidelines (Global Reporting Iniciative), Globo launched a campaign to present to the public, in a 45-second film, the six commitments that make up its 2030 ESG Agenda, in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Now, it’s time to break down each appointment into specific pieces. For this, Globo released the first two films out of a total of six.
The initial pieces will tell the details about the appointment #1: produce and distribute content in harmony with society, contributing to social and environmental development; it’s the commitment #2: promote diversity and inclusion in our content and in our teams. Goals to which Globo is already committed through content – whether in entertainment or in its honest, impartial and agile journalism, as recommended by the company’s principles -, in addition to reflecting the diversity among its talents.
Globo brings important discussions of everyday events in its stories. In 2021, 23% of the dramaturgy content and 43% of the documentaries developed by the company had the support of consultants who worked with the creative teams to respect the peculiarities, singularities, layers and complexities of the minority groups addressed in their narratives. A way to increasingly improve the dialogue with society on latent issues and present different points of view.
On diversity, Globo’s view is that this is a strategic vector to ensure a work environment that values and respects differences, as well as being essential to vehemently combat harassment and discrimination. To develop a culture focused on the topic in the company, the Diversity and Inclusion area was created in 2020, and a corporate strategy was approved that includes education, recruitment, affinity groups, education and career initiatives; and, in the same year, the first Globo Census was carried out with self-reported demography.
The films, which will be broadcast on TV Globo and cable channels, detail the first two commitments and follow the campaign’s concept, showing images of the content broadcast on Globo’s screens, in line with the premise of the commitment, and a voiceover in off. The illustrated character moves, forming a spiral animation and blending into the infinity symbol, the seal of Globo’s ESG campaign. The pieces end with the tagline‘ Making a difference is every day’.
Every two weeks a new film goes on the air, portraying the other commitments: Commitment #3: To invest in the continuous development and well-being of our employees, seeking to be, every day, a company to which everyone is proud to belong; Commitment #4: Valuing and protecting biodiversity, promoting environmental awareness and respecting the natural limits of our planet; Commitment #5: Promote transparent and responsible governance, guided by the Globo essence; Commitment #6: Actively support education as a vector of transformation in Brazil.
