Vans, the original action sports shoe and apparel brand, proudly presents the Vans x Sailor Moon collection by Lizzie Armanto. Inspired by the pioneering series and the skater, the latest union between Vans and Sailor Moon represents a love letter to fans. The collection of sneakers, apparel and accessories was developed by a DIY approach with a retro aesthetic, led by The Lizzie – the first skate shoe signed by a woman in 20 years. The Vans x Sailor Moon collection by Lizzie Armanto is part of a wider and more complete Vans x Sailor Moon capsule, with the other releases available in Brazil soon.
Sailor Moon is a shojo manga written by Naoko Takeuchi, which began serialization in 1991 in the monthly magazine Nakayosi (published by Kodansha). The original book has been translated into 17 languages and the animated series, produced by Toei Animation, has been broadcast in over 40 countries, resulting in social phenomena in Japan and around the world. Vans has teamed up with the Sailor Moon series in a collection that reflects the same resilience and inclusive spirit as Lizzie Armanto, a skateboarder on the Vans global team.
The sneaker line carries three custom silhouettes by graphic collages depicting Sailor Moon and the guardians. The Skate Old Skool and the Skate Slip-On – expected to be available in the first half of August – combine an aesthetic of the past and a punk-inspired theme.
The collection’s highlight – The Lizzie – receives the complete run of the Sailor Moon series. Created to deliver something completely different to all types of skaters and their unmet needs, The Lizzie features a new vulcanized construction, slightly rounded outsole edges for immediate boardfeel. The universal fit carries the perfect amount of EcoCush cushioning, increasing the board’s feel and impact protection for all types of skaters.
In addition, a new toe cap and iconic Sidestripe composed of DURACAP in high-wear areas contribute to maximum durability, while the new micro-waffle sole in combination with natural and bio-product rubber, Sick-Stick™, offers the grip that you already expect from Vans sneakers.
For the garments, the collaboration features the same two-tone aesthetic on the hoodie – through the anime illustrations on the front and Checkerboard details on the sleeves – and a reversible bucket hat with the Sailor Moon logo in black, finished with Checkerboard details. and Vans logo on the back.
A true embodiment of Vans DNA, Lizzie Armanto is an icon of originality and positivity. With her conscientious, modern and innovative approach, it’s no wonder that Lizzie has become a role model for skaters around the world. Moving to Santa Monica at age 14, Lizzie quickly became a fixture at the local skatepark “The Cove”.
While she spent every day developing her skateboarding role, she never envisioned it as a career. Perhaps it is this humble attitude, in combination with her relentless mindset, that paved the way for the iconic milestones she has conquered today. From being the first woman to complete Tony Hawk’s 360 Loop, to landing covers for TransWorld Skateboarding and Thrasher, to competing on the world stage at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Lizzie is setting the tone for a revolution the skateboarding world has been waiting for.
