You’ve no doubt heard the backstage gossip of Do not worry, dear. The film, which opens this Thursday in Brazilian cinemas, had a lot of stories that would make a movie by itself. had the waiver of Shia LaBoeuf, the so-called fights of Florence Pugh and Olivia Wilde. Not to mention the romance between Harry Styles and Olivia, which would have caused the separation of him and Jason Sudeikis. Plus, when the movie had its premiere in Venice, Harry Styles’ alleged spitting on Chris Pine (which I think is pretty unlikely). Either way, regardless of the behind-the-scenes gossip, the movie hits theaters with very controversial reviews. See what I found here.
But first, there’s the story. The main character is a woman (Florence Pugh) named Alice. She lives peacefully with her husband (Harry Styles) in a community where everyone who works for a company, Estes, also lives with their wives, in a condominium in the 1950s. husbands come home from work.
Her day-to-day life consists of dance classes, cooking, house cleaning and night parties with everyone who lives there. Their husbands work at Projeto Vitória, a utopian city, a project with the aim of changing the world. In the midst of everything, one of them begins to question the project and its objective, which is not told to the wives by the husbands. As they begin to question their surroundings, the perfect lives of wife and husband begin to fall into disrepair. Especially as Project Vitória’s company secrets come to light.
What did I think of the movie?
It is obvious that the first thing that comes to mind when you start watching Do not worry, dearIt is Wives in Conflict. For those who don’t know, it’s a 1975 movie, which had a remake called Perfect Women., in 2004. Women live a life, allegedly perfect (for some), that obviously there’s something wrong. And Alice, made with the usual talent by Florence Pugh, is one of those who realizes that there are problems in paradise. But the film’s main problem is that director Olivia Wilde sets the pace for many genres. From psychological suspense, to domestic melodrama, passed through science fiction. She pity that not all are harmonic.
I want to make it clear that there are very good moments. The photography, the art direction are sensational. But the problem is that there are many situations, and little is explained. The script is pretty ineffective. And for anyone who has seen Wives in Conflict, the problem is even more obvious. And yet, the director insists on presenting Alice’s daily life again and again. Tired! But anyway, Florence Pugh is always sensational. Chris Pine also shines with his all-encompassing charm as the project’s mastermind. He’s the best, too bad he doesn’t appreciate much. A lot of people spoke poorly of Harry Styles’ performance. Honestly I think this has a lot to do with the prejudice against the young musician. It didn’t bother me, and I think it worked pretty well.
I don’t think the movie is “easy” enough to appeal to Harry Styles fans. And, honestly, I think a good part of the audience will watch Do not worry, dear because of the backstage gossip. Too bad, in the end, this ends up being more interesting than the movie itself.
