The expectation that another 20 thousand bicycles will be available in the period, which would represent a 50% increase in the system in Latin America
Ita Unibanco has renewed its partnership with Tembici and will be the sponsor of Bike Ita for another 10 years. The expectation, according to the institution, is that another 20,000 bicycles will be available in the period, which would represent a 50% increase in the system in Latin America. The calculation includes both cities where the model is already in operation and new countries and cities.
The partnership between the two brands has just completed 10 years and, in addition to the Brazilian territory, it is present in cities in Chile and Argentina. Since 2012, more than 71 million trips have been carried out and 440 million kilometers have been traveled, a distance that would be the equivalent of 15 thousand trips around the world.
“Sustainable urban mobility is a cause taken very seriously by Ita. Looking at the numbers of this partnership and seeing that we are consolidating an initiative that really makes a difference in people’s lives and also contributes to preserving the environment and creating cities that are more functional and sustainable products fills us with pride”, says Luciana Nicola, director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability at Ita Unibanco.
In addition to the bike-sharing model, the project includes actions such as bike racks, research and behavior studies. “The power of transformation and potential of our business has already been proved, both for our sponsors, for investors, and also for society”, says Toms Martins, CEO of Tembici.
The new phase of the partnership should be marked by the robust arrival of electric bikes in the system, already present in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and So Paulo. In less than two years, e-bikes were used in approximately 2 million trips in the two capitals.
