Completing 20 years in 2022, the technology and connection company has been growing since its inception and predicts what the future of work will be like.
In the early 2000s, Renato Batista, a young man from the countryside of São Paulo, recently graduated in Business Administration, dreamed of creating his own company. He had worked at Intel, where he saw, for the first time, a video of a person choosing a product to buy on their cell phone – although this was a common scene in our daily lives, at the time, it was something revolutionary and almost unthinkable. Delighted with the many possibilities that new technologies would bring in the future, he decided he wanted to be part of this universe, especially after a friend introduced him to the arrival of the first equipment for video calls in Brazil. In 2002, investment rounds were not common. Even so, he managed to found Netglobe as a company designed to be a reference in the videoconferencing segment.
Despite being fascinated by the possibilities that the use of new technologies could offer for companies, there was a major barrier: the young entrepreneur needed to convince executives that investing in video calls was good business. “We had to prove to the leaders that it was worth investing in. Many times, I had to explain to the board what videoconferencing was and how it worked in practice”, recalls Renato.
Over time, the history of Netglobe began to be confused with the history of technological advances in Brazil and in the world.
The Beginning of Broadbands
One of the biggest impediments that the brand faced to sell its products was the restriction of broadband at the time, after all, this was a novelty that was starting to show up around here and many companies simply did not have enough bandwidth to work with video calls. .
After some time, working in partnership with large companies – such as Natura, for example – Renato and his team began to calculate the Return on Investment provided by video calls. As many trips took place just to run meetings, calculating their cost has become an excellent way to measure the ROI of investing in video calls. “Once we were able to show that to executives, the benefit became increasingly clear. At the same time, technology improved and required less broadband, which also became cheaper and more common within companies”, points out Renato.
Subscription services and first international meetings
Renato explains how technological advances have caused profound changes in the corporate world. “We left the infrastructure issue and entered the business issue. In 2006, we were one of the first companies in Brazil to make videoconferencing a subscription service, launching the first hardware subscription program for video calls, in which we offer the rental of cameras, microphones and other equipment. With that, we started to serve not only market giants, but also medium and small companies, because the model offered by us made videoconferencing a possible reality for SMEs”.
From 2012 to 2016, Netglobe developed the concept of managed service, monitoring every meeting to ensure an optimal level of service, with the certainty that no one would disconnect and everyone could follow the call perfectly. Thus, Netglobe was one of the first companies to implement the VNOC (Video Network Operation Center), working 24 hours a day and 7 days a week exclusively to support regions, including according to time zone, customizing and guaranteeing experiences excellent in meetings with people attending from different countries.
The arrival of 3G and smartphones
Netglobe then followed and faced the challenge of connecting people on the move. The beginning of 3G spurred the launch of the first solution that connected smartphones with videoconferencing rooms, this in 2013. “We started having people joining meetings from anywhere, which was amazing at the time. Companies like JBS and Toyota were great customers who counted on us to implement this resource”, says Renato.
The world of “Lives”, Great Place to Work and Book “Por Trás da TI”
When the Covid-19 pandemic arrived causing profound and sudden changes in the routine of organizations around the world.
But unlike many companies, Netglobe had made the right bets. “The shift to videoconferencing as a service has kept us structured during the pandemic. In addition, the period leveraged the sector. It was only after the pandemic that people really understood the value of videoconferencing and gave new meaning to working models. Technologies that were trends years before the pandemic became urgent, as happened with video calls”, completes Batista.
Netglobe was one of the most prepared companies to face the scenario and was not content with just offering effective and customized solutions for new and existing customers. Renato Batista started to promote a series of lives with CIOs and IT professionals – the Live50CIOs project – which included professionals from different areas and companies to understand the changes, challenges and learnings experienced, creating a space for the exchange of knowledge that is totally safe in the environment. digital.
The Live50CIOs project – which had the participation of more than 50 information technology professionals – was a success and became a book called “Behind IT – Life Stories of Leaders Who Inspired Generations”. The work was launched in a hybrid event and became another milestone in the history of Netglobe. Today, Renato continues to talk about various topics with executives and publishes the videos on the company’s Youtube channel, in a series entitled Interview 50CIOs.
The recognition of good management came 5 years ago, with the seal Great Place to Workwhich publicly reinforced the company’s leadership capacity and the creation of a good organizational culture.
The future of work is the creation of new models of organizational culture
Today, Netglobe’s purpose has expanded and continues to innovate, as has always been the company’s characteristic. “Based on all the changes we have experienced in recent years, our purpose is to help assemble the spaces and methodologies of the future of work, which we believe will be hybrid. In this model, we have to take care of the corporate relationship with regard to the connection with people’s homes. We want to renew another 20 years of our history with this mentality”, says Renato.
For the first 10 years, Netglobe doubled in size every year. In the last 10 years, it has become a company that offers the most complete services and solutions to the market, with equipment rental and video call monitoring. With that, the number is repeated: we grew 10 times in revenue between 2012 and 2022.
“We will have to create new cultures for the new work models. We will also have to take care of these digital relationships, faithfully replicating what is being done in the office for those who are not there, promoting an easy and accessible interaction for people. The main discussion in the coming years will be about how companies will organize themselves and work on their employability models. I see that we started by talking about videoconferencing and, today, we are talking about organizational culture and employability. It is a very big change in these 20 years”, explains the CEO.
Today, Netglobe continues to innovate by offering the possibility of recording corporate podcasts, lives, hybrid and digital events, software and hardware solutions for hybrid and remote work, integrated architectural and technological solutions for offices, among other services and products. .
