Smile is a small horror movie that would initially go straight to streaming. But then Paramount had excellent reactions in the test sessions, and decided to take it to the movies. Really, you will jump in the cinema seat several times. The film opens this Thursday.
Everything in the life of Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) changes after a patient brutally dies in front of her. The bizarre and traumatic incident takes place in her office. From there, Rose begins to experience frightening occurrences that she cannot explain. But soon she realizes that, somehow, they relate to the death she witnessed. To understand the phenomenon, Rose will look for answers. After all, evil is already chasing her, and all she wants most is to run away. The problem is that every day she becomes more immersed in this web of frightening events. To survive, Rose must face the disturbing situation that presents itself.
What did I find?
The film has a good atmosphere, it made me take several scares. At the same time that it addresses the problem of mental illness, it continues to mount a sense of imminent supernatural danger. There’s a great use of shadows – why do these people never turn on the lights in the movies? I always think that the suggestion of danger is always more frightening to the audience than the danger itself. And there’s an excellent protagonist in Sosie Bacon. Daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedwick, she has an interesting career in series. just remember to Mare of Easttown, 13 reasons Why e Narcos: Mexico, among the most recent. In Smile, she makes us accompany – feel – all her terror, and also all the problems that surround her. Really a highlight.
But the problem with the film is – surprise (rs) – the script. The feeling is that you’ve seen this story several times. And really, just remember The Calling, The Mirror e current of evil. The triggers are different, but in the end, the story has the same principle. Maybe that’s why the film is somewhat predictable for those who have seen all those I mentioned. But what can you do to take a few scares, ah, that’s enough!
