Recent data reported by the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Edson Fachin, show that Brazil won more than 2 million teenage voters between January and April 2022, which represents a growth of 47.2% in relation to the same period in 2018. With the arrival of the elections and an in-depth look at the young gamer audience that must exercise their right to vote for the first time, Politize! and the startup Pixel Hunters launch an educational map in Fortnite to help with the processes and provide the main information about the elections in Brazil, which will take place on the 2nd.
The map aims to bring young Brazilians who like games – 43.2% of them between 16 and 24 years old, according to the Games Brasil 2022 Research – in a playful way – to the voting processes that take place in real life, guiding gamer voters about questions such as: what are the correct documents to bring on election day, what is your Electoral College and how to find your polling station. Another contribution of the initiative is to explain the functions of each political office in Brazil and the functioning of government structures – a point that even causes a lot of confusion among adults.
Henrique Mancini (Sharshock), founding partner of Pixel Hunters, explains:
“As influencers, we know that most Fortnite players are in the age group that votes for the first time or are close to that moment. We then decided to use the tools of the game’s creative mode to simulate the voting experience, teaching how to exercise your right as a citizen in the right way.”
The map will be available in Fortnite during both rounds and can also be used in future elections. To access it, just use the code 1885-3851-4834 or follow the steps on the website. Watch the video that illustrates how the map works.
Politize!, a civil society organization whose mission is to form a generation of citizens who are aware and committed to democracy through political education, saw in this initiative an opportunity to use technology and the games segment to contribute to increased participation citizen, especially young people, in decision-making spaces that impact all Brazilians.
Luiza Wosgrau Câmara, Manager of the Communication Center at Politize!, comments:
“We are very happy with this partnership. Our mission is to bring political education to anyone, anywhere. And, certainly, having the opportunity to make our content available within one of the main and most accessed games today will help us get closer to our goal.”
