O world mental health day it’s celebrated this Monday, October 10th. The date was established by the World Federation of Mental Health in 1992, with the aim of alerting to the necessary care to maintain mental health.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Brazil is the country with the highest rate of people with anxiety disorders in the world, with almost 20 million citizens.
Based on the finding that while mental health has attracted increasing global attention in recent years, it has not yet received commensurate attention and investment. Mental health and psychosocial support needs are expected to increase significantly in the coming years. Investing in national and international mental health programs that have not been funded for years is more important than ever.
An example is the Post em Branco Project, conceived by publicist Daniel Portuga, VP of Razorfish New York, diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), who, faced with an anxiety crisis, realized that he had in his hands a tool to shed light on a topic still little discussed and known.
In one of the worst crises he has experienced in 2020 – exacerbated by isolation during the coronavirus epidemic – Portuga found himself locked in his apartment, lonely and completely distressed. Without the strength to ask for help, but at the same time wanting to signal to friends that something was not right, he posted 227 blank posts, without any text, just the last post with the word OUT, and what was supposed to be a request for help , became a social experiment.

With publicist Rodrigo Esteves, also diagnosed with TAG, the Post em Branco appeared, which has already won 4 international awards and has become a tool for people who suffer from anxiety to draw attention in a time of crisis and receive help. It also proposes to give visibility to the problem – which already affects about 264 million people worldwide – in addition to breaking taboos and judgments in relation to diagnoses related to mental health.
In this exclusive interview, recently recorded on the Live Ads program and shown live on TV Markket, the CEO of Adnews and anchor of the program, Daniel Rosa, together with his partner Cathy Birle, talk in a relaxed and punctual way with Portuga, which offers us the opportunity to bet in favor of life and to take concrete measures in favor of mental health, including supporting friends, family and managers in adopting measures to implement wellness programs, committing to establish or expand mental health services and explaining what else can and should be done to make mental health a reality for all.
