This Monday (17th), National Vaccination Day is celebrated and, with this in mind, the Halo Team, a global initiative of the UN that brings together health experts to disseminate safe and reliable information, is launching the #VacinaEmDia campaign, in partnership with the groups Unio Pr-Vaccine and All for Vaccines.
The initiative has different actions on social networks and, among them, the publication of the comic The world before vaccines, with a script written by scientist Wasim Syed, guide of the Halo Team and member of Unio Pr-Vacina, and by illustrator Cecilia Marins and illustrations of it.
The story deals with the need to get vaccinated against polio and the importance of fulfilling the entire immunization agenda to protect yourself from other diseases, such as COVID-19, for example. The story will also be told in the form of audio, on the podcast Listen to Science!, by Letcia Sarturi.
We want to talk about the importance of routine immunization for everyone’s well-being. It is an opportune moment because we have a low adherence to vaccination against poliomyelitis. The date is a great opportunity to contribute with reliable information on the subject, said the interim director of the United Nations Information Center for Brazil (UNIC Rio), Roberta Caldo. UNIC Rio coordinates the Verified project in Brazil, of which the Halo Team is a part.
In addition to the comics, the campaign will also bring the Halo Team guides to mobilize the public on social networks with scientists and health professionals, such as Dr. Jaqueline Goes, Dr. Luiz Rosa, Dr. Denise Garrett and Dr. Andr Bafica, who will publish videos on their own networks, answering the most frequent questions related to the topic.
As part of the campaign’s efforts, a call for the use of the #VacinaEmDia filter in Instagram posts is intended to engage the whole of society in favor of the importance of up-to-date vaccinations.
