Since 2019, Bridgestone, official sponsor of CONMEBOL Libertadores, honors the best player with the Best of the Tournament ring. This year, in addition to crowning the tournament star, the diamond-studded jewel will help assemble the new generation through donations to the NGO Gerando Falcões. To tell this story and show the efforts of young people across Brazil who dream of being champions, VMLY&R developed the film “Correria”, starring amateur soccer player Rodrigo. The campaign debuted this Friday (14) on ESPN and will unfold in the digital environment.
Paulinho Duarte, Creative Director at VMLY&R, said:
“In this campaign we didn’t just reproduce aspirations and concepts on a canvas, but we brought a lot of reality. Rodrigo is not an invention. He exists. He plays for a small team in Bahia and wants to be a player. He lives on the run every day. His story was a way of showing that this year is not only the best of CONMEBOL Libertadores that will win a jewel, but that the vote will also help to shape a new generation of talents in South America with support for social projects.”
Movie
“Man, it’s a lot of bullshit”, so the protagonist Rodrigo presents his day to day to fulfill his dream of being the best player in CONMEBOL Libertadores. In a routine that mixes classrooms with muddy fields; work clothes with game uniforms; and gray suburban streets with the long-awaited green lawn; he shows his rush to refine himself in search of the symbolic eight black diamonds that are in the ring to also shine in the future. To bring the plot closer to the audience, all this dreamlike plot of the character is told to a friend as if it were a WhatsApp audio.
Best of Tournament
Annually, Bridgstone elects the best player in CONMEBOL Libertadores. With voting open to the public, thousands of people choose their favorite, but in this edition the dynamics will not only include the main athlete of the competition. In partnership with the NGO Gerando Falcões, whoever votes for one of the five nominees (Vitor Roque and David Terans from Club Athletico Paranaense; Pedro, Éverton Ribeiro and Arrascaeta from Flamengo) will be able to donate to the institution an amount that will help other people to also get closer of achieving their goals.
Marcos Silveira, Marketing Manager at Bridgestone Latin America South, says:
“We are very happy to extend the tributes not only to those who are successful inside the stadiums, but also to young people who want to win in real life. Therefore, we open the vote to all people who both want to choose their favorite player and seek to do good in this action in partnership with Gerando Falcões.”
Voting for the best player of CONMEBOL Libertadores 2022 and donations are now open at Fanbridgestone.com.
The diamond ring has been delivered since 2019, when Bridgestone launched the Best Of The Tournament, an action that elects the best CONMEBOL Libertadores performance. In the first year, Bruno Henrique, playing for Flamengo, was elected the best player and won a ring with 128 diamonds.
In the 2020 edition, Marinho, playing for Santos, received the title of best of the tournament with a jewel inspired by the Maracanã stadium, with 131 diamonds. The last jewel was given to Gabigol, a Flamengo player. The ring was inspired by the Estadio Centenario, stage of the final. In gold, the jewel carries 122 diamonds, a yellow sapphire, a blue topaz and a transparent quartz cabochon.
