Maracanã will be the first 5G stadium in Brazil. THE TIM closed a partnership with the stadium administration, where it installed 17 antennas for the fifth generation of mobile network. The infrastructure is sufficient to serve an audience well above the stadium’s capacity. The debut of the new technology was this Wednesday (19), in the grand final between Flamengo and Corinthians. To celebrate the agreement, the operator launches a campaign with a film – created by BETC Has – which will also air tonight.
The partnership with Maracanã also provides for the display of the brand in strategic locations, such as a bench, screen and LED panels. The kick-off was the lighting of the stadium in blue on Tuesday night (10/18). The operator – who is also an official sponsor of Flamengo – has chosen a team of red-black influencers who usually frequent the stands to experience the potential of fifth-generation technology on launch night: Arthur Picoli (@arthurpicoli), Pitoco (@pitocoemadrinha) , Irwen Pereira (@irwenpereira) and Duda Lima (@dudalimacrf).
TIM’s CEO, Alberto Griselli, points out:
“We are protagonists in the implementation of 5G in Brazil and we are attentive to all the possibilities of experiences that customers can have access to, such as – for example – full connection in large agglomerations. This is precisely why we invested to deliver consistent coverage in all capital cities right from the start of the new technology.”
He also highlights that only the operator will offer the fifth generation network at Maracanã at this first moment:
“Our goal is to enhance the fans’ experience in a scenario of intense connectivity, also facilitating the work of those who work in the space, such as the press, for example. 5G opens up a world of possibilities and TIM is ready to bring people closer to this new reality”.
With the infrastructure in place, TIM customers present at Maracanã and who have a device compatible with 5G will be able to automatically take advantage of the technology. As one of the great advantages of the fifth generation is to support more simultaneous accesses, being able to connect thousands of devices at the same time and with navigation quality, users will be able to use social networks, messaging apps and other applications fully and at very high speed.
The areas around the stadium will also be served, benefiting those who are at points such as UERJ and Mangueira. Those who do not have a 5G smartphone will still see an important improvement in 4G in the region, as part of the existing traffic today will be transferred by the newly installed infrastructure.
