The 70th edition of the festival will take place between the 19th and 23rd of June and will have changes in four of the 30 categories
The State, official representative of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, announced the dates for the next edition of the event, which will take place between June 19 and 23, 2023.
The event’s website was revamped and information such as delegate registration, CMO Accelerator Program, Online Learning Courses, The Lions Academies, The Work, Lions Membership can now be accessed.
In addition to the date for the next edition, the festival also announced some news for next year. One is a change in campaign eligibility, and for 2023, submitted works must have been exhibited, released or released to the public for the first time between February 21, 2022 and April 23, 2023.
Involving the issues of Diversity, Equity and Equality, in 2023 participants will be encouraged to provide information on the composition of the teams involved behind the scenes and any relevant information about the DE&I agenda of the brand or agency. The objective of the initiative is to measure progress and help shape future criteria.
Also new is the new category dedicated to Games, the Entertainment Lions for Gaming, which will celebrate creative work that connects people to brands through gameplay. Entries in this category will need to demonstrate how brands have reached out to gaming communities and added real value to the overall gaming experience, while driving commercial success.
The Creative B2B Lion category has also been updated. The organization has removed the distinction between Products and Services in the subcategories, to better reflect the B2B sector, and has introduced a new subcategory called ‘Integrated Campaign’, which will aim to ensure that the Leo recognizes the multi-touch and multi-stakeholder nature of the journey purchase for B2B creative work.
Another category that underwent changes was Pharma Lions, which now has new specifications that will ensure that the Lion distinguishes the difference between pharmaceutical work that faces heavy regulations and health and wellness work, which can be aired. without the same restrictions.
Still in the Pharma Lions category, all submitted work must be directed to specific professionals and patient groups in relation to the treatment of a diagnosed disease or medical condition, as well as being treated by a health professional.
Sections have also been restructured so that all Regulated and Non-Regulated work is separated, and averages have also been updated to more closely align with Lions specialties.
Another category that has been updated for 2023 is Mobile Lions, which now includes all applications for handheld devices and mobile technology. The 2023 edition of Cannes Lions will also feature the introduction of the Metaverse in subcategories focused on New Realities and Emerging Technology.
The festival also announced that, with the exception of the Digital Craft, Film Craft and Industry Craft categories, all Lions will have to answer what the impact of that work was. Now, participants will be asked to provide information that demonstrates the Impact, Effectiveness and Growth effect of a given project, taking into account the variety of metrics that show the effectiveness of creativity.
As members of Ad Net Zero, the festival will also encourage participants to provide information describing their carbon emissions as part of the production process. For 2023, the information will not be used as part of the judging process, but will be used to define a baseline to build future criteria.
Registration will be open from January 19, 2023 and prices for each category can now be accessed through the website. The amounts vary according to the deadline determined by the organization, with costs from 630 to 2,600, which can rise by up to 53%, depending on which period they are made.
