Athens, the agency led by Denise Garrido and Quércia Andrade, with the constant awareness of promoting diversity, equity and inclusion, put the second edition of Vozes Pretas on the agenda, with a lecture by Dr Barbara Carine to talk about Racial Diversity, in the month in which Black Consciousness is celebrated. The event took place this week, on 11/22, at the Consulado Rosa Malê restaurant, in Pelourinho, Salvador.
The evening was opened by Quércia Andrade, VP and member of the Athens Internal Diversity Committee, who invited everyone to reflect on the theme: “Black consciousness. Be aware. Be anti-racist. Respect all people and their rights. Promote equity in all environments”.
In her presentation, Dr Barbara explained how it is necessary to bring diversity to the corporate space in a way that makes it clear that diversity is potent and fundamental for the constructive process from a human point of view and within the business productive process. In her speech, she questioned where society’s great resistance to openness to diversity comes from.
“Where does it come from? Where does this logic come from that cisgender white men, who perform between normativity, within a capacitist dimension, are the subjects prone to assume the spaces of power in society?”, asks Dr. Barbarian. The answer is on a reasoned tripod between science, philosophy and religion.

This event was organized by “Janela Plural”, an agency platform for promoting equity, which has the initiative to discuss racial issues in communication, develop diversity and ESG actions for the agency and its clients. The presentation attracted customers, employees and opinion makers from black entities in Salvador. Athens also created an Internal Diversity Committee, involving professionals from each of the areas to develop and keep the issues of equity, diversity and inclusion always on the agenda for discussion.
