HBO Max saw the result of the friends special that fans love a souvenir. The opportunity to see your favorite actors reminiscing about unforgettable moments and behind the scenes. With that, it took one of its most profitable products, the saga Harry Potter, to do the same. Just to give you an idea, just at the cinema box office, the little wizard’s films grossed nearly 9 billion. Not to mention book sales and spinoff fantastic animals (the third premieres this year). the special of Harry Potter: Back to Hogwarts, which premiered on HBO Max on the 1st, thrills, makes you laugh, and is a great nostalgia trip.
The production is top notch, with sets, and a triumphant opening with Emma Watson arriving at Hogwarts. Who would have thought that it’s been 20 years since the first movie premiered? The three stars, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are present, along with much of the original cast talking about their memories of the time. It’s interesting to see how the production managed to bring together so many people. Even top actors like Helena Bonham-Carter, Ralph Fiennes and Gary Oldman. All are part of a beautiful tribute, a great journey in memory.
There are really fun times. Emma and Rupert talk about the awkward moment of their first kiss. And some really exciting ones. Tom Felton talking about his mom from the movie, Helen McCrory, who passed away this year. And also how the three dealt with the fame that followed. In fact, it is surprising, and even more tender, to see how openly they talk about different situations. How Emma almost gave up on the way. Or her girlish crush on Tom Felton.
Other participations and the situation of JK Rowling
All directors talk about their experience with each of the films. The most fun is Chris Columbus, who started it all. The special also emotionally pays tribute to all those who are gone, Helen, Richard Harris and especially Alan Rickman. The only somewhat awkward point in the whole story is the absence of JK Rowling, the author. Yes, it is there in some comments, but these are scenes that were previously recorded in 2019, they are not part of the special meeting. All because of the anti-transgender comments the writer made recently. This caused its cancellation on the networks. A pity, especially for someone who has written so well about accepting other people’s differences.
There were also some fun little mistakes, which only add to the charm of the production. They put Emma Roberts in a child photo that was supposed to be a photo of Emma Watson. They reversed the names of the Weasley twins, James and Oliver Phelps. The internet loved it, lol.
What is certain is that you will feel totally part of the Harry Potter universe. Looks like they’re in the living room at home telling stories of the good times. And they will make you laugh a lot and still feel some specks in your eyes, lol. It is worth it!
