The sequel to Avatar is finally hitting the big screen after more than 10 years of waiting, next Thursday, November 15th. Director James Cameron returns to command the production, which arrives with high expectations taking into account the results of the first title in the franchise, released in 2009.
Check out the trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water:
Avatar brought great innovations to the film industry, mainly due to its revolutionary special effects and the introduction of 3D, a concept that also surprised the general public at the time of the original release.
In addition, one of the great points that put the film in the history of cinema was its box office. For much of the past decade, Avatar was the highest-grossing film of all time, only to be surpassed by Avengers: Endgame. However, after losing the position, the film was re-released a fourth time, and currently has an estimated box office of 2.9 billion of dollars.
For James Cameron, occupying high positions in box office lists is nothing new. The filmmaker is the author of works such as The Terminator and Titanic, which still ranks at the box office today, with 2.201 billion dollars raised around the world.
Therefore, the expectation of the producers for Avatar is huge. The film is expected to hit the $135 million mark in its first weekend in theaters in the United States alone, more than the first hit did in its opening weekend. However, not everything is rosy, as the film also cost a fortune to make and needs to beat its production price.
Check out the official synopsis:
After starting a family, Jake Sully and Ney’tiri do everything to be together. However, they must leave home and explore the regions of Pandora when an ancient threat resurfaces, and Jake must wage an uphill war against the humans.
