Stage where Neymar Jr. debuted as a professional and great stars paraded their talent, Pavilhão Pacaembu saw young talents from the new generation of games ‘enter the field’. With more than 40 countries in place, full stands and distinguished presences from different areas, the venue was the stage for the biggest VALORANT tournament in the world for university students, the Red Bull Campus Clutch, throughout the week. Impeccably, Northwood (USA) did not give any chances to the opponents, beat 07 (Canada) in the big decision by 3-1 and won the international title of the second edition of the event. Considered one of the favorites, Brazil fell in the group stage.
To reach the final, the USA passed, undefeated, by Slovenia, Belgium, Sweden, India and Guatemala in the group stage. In the round of 16 and quarterfinals, they faced Chile and the Czech Republic. Before facing Canada in the decision, they had to overcome Macedonia. Such confidence even made players provoke opponents, mentally destabilizing them. In the title duel, the Americans lost a map (Icebox), something unheard of until then, but they overcame the odds and, sovereigns, won by 3 to 1.
Hunter ‘furbsa’ Mcmillan, professional Valorant player, says:
“I didn’t expect to be MVP of the event, I just wanted to help my team. This is something very important, but the focus has always been on helping the team in search of the title. The atmosphere was incredible. I come from a small town in the USA, very rural. That was the craziest experience of my life. The people are wonderful.”
Since Sunday (11), São Paulo has received hundreds of young people from over 40 countries to compete in the Red Bull Campus Clutch. Names such as digital influencer Leo Picon and singer MC Kekel, for example, were also present at the Valorant competition, as well as fps fans who filled the stands at the venue. This Friday (16), the semifinals took place, a showmatch with the female lineup of VALORANT from G2 and streamers from FURIA and the big decision that took over the environment.
As a result, the world champion team earned 20,000 euros and a VIP experience on the VALORANT Champions Tour 2023. Host of the event, Scroll Lock (Brazil) was considered one of the favorites due to the level of players, however, they failed in the details and failed to advance to the playoffs.
In 2022, Red Bull Campus Clutch still had global partnerships from Intel NUC, SteelSeries, AGON by AOC and Backforce.
The champion’s journey!
Ranked in Group A of the competition, the USA passed Jordani (Slovenia), PXL Esports (Belgium), DogSafari2 (Sweden), Villainous (India) and Aqua Gaming (Guatemala). In the round of 16, they faced Condorito (Chile). In the quarterfinals and semifinals, they faced Narodni Garda (Czech Republic) and OBK (Macedonia), respectively.
For the big decision, in the MD5 format, the USA started overwhelmingly against Canada, on Pearl. Cohesive due to the American university tournaments, the team bet on long-distance aiming to take down opposing agents. The victory, quick, happened by 13 to 4. But, everything changed in the feared Icebox, map little chosen in the event. The Canadians, under the command of the MVP of the round Nabil, who chose Raze, overthrew the unbeaten US record on maps: a consistent 13-6 victory, with Sage, Viper, Chamber and Sova on the team.
The third clash put US resilience to the test. At Haven, the Americans started at a disadvantage as defenders, being a few rounds away from defeat. However, Ali, with an ACS of 271, led the comeback commanding Omen, who had an extra round, to close at 14 to 12. In the fourth match, in Bind, the USA took advantage of the opponent’s shock and crushed: 13 to 7, with a large initial advantage and maintenance of the result.
