Maybe you don’t know Fandango (no, I’m not talking about the snack). But they are a huge company that sells tickets to theaters in the United States through their app/website. She also owns the famous Rotten Tomatoes, which analyzes and gives ratings for films. Well, Fandango did a survey with its audience about cinema in 2023. About 5000 people who bought at least one movie ticket answered the survey in early December.
The news is good for the North American film market. Most of those who responded say they intend to go to the cinema more than they did in 2022. 84% say they intend to go to the cinema at least six times. Last year the number was 80% who wanted to see at least five films. And this result is clearly due to the large number of sequels to come. The research demonstrates a great desire to revisit known characters and universes. And this is the second year that franchises have dominated Fandango’s expected list.
The movies on the list
1. Guardians of the Galaxy – Volume 3 – May
2. Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse – Part 1 – June
3. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – February
4. John Wick: Chapter 4 – March
5. Indiana Jones and the Call of Fate – June
6. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom – March
7. Mission Impossible – Reckoning: Part 1 – July
8. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Birds and Snakes – November
9. Creed III – November
10. The Super Mario Bros. Movie – March
Of that list, three are Marvel productions. Only one film is not part of a film franchise, The Super Mario Bros Movie?? But you have to remember that this one comes from a great game franchise. But I confess that I found the absence of Fast and Furious, The Little Mermaid, Shazam e Dungeons and Dragons.
