Well, no one can accuse the Golden Globes of not awarding diversity at its 2022/2023 party. Early on, host Jerrod Carmichael saying he was chosen to be the emcee because he was black. But that he thought it was a good idea to take the money and have the party. “This industry deserves parties like this, whatever the Hollywood Foreign Press is.” And since then, the award winners have hit all the right notes, especially for the Golden Globes folks trying to pull themselves out of a scandal. Blacks, women, Latinos, Hindus, Orientals, women over 60. This year’s list is impressive. It seems like a perfect script to say “look how we’ve changed”.
However, it must be emphasized that from the things I saw, nothing was unfair. Of course, I had one or two favorites that I didn’t take, but it’s not one of those situations to be complaining about. I always think, for example, that Jennifer Coolidge always plays the same role – her own. But ok, the world loves her. And I have to admit, she ended up giving the funniest speech of the night. More than the presenter, who, after the introduction, practically disappeared.
Other events
The big winners of the night were The Fabelmans (which premieres this Thursday in theaters), with a drama film and direction by Steven Spielberg. Also Os Banshees de Inisherim took the award for comedy/musical film, screenplay and actor for Colin Farrell. Between series, Abbot Elementary, The Dragon House e White Lotus came out as the biggest winners.
Unfortunately, TNT didn’t broadcast the party, which had some emotional moments, like the tribute and the presentation of the Carol Burnett award to Ryan Murphy. There were also thanks/tributes from Angela Bassett to Chadwick Boseman, and from Ke Huy Quan to Steven Spielberg. Too bad we didn’t get to see it, especially since award show fans have always given the channel huge ratings. Anyway, even if intermittently, on some You Tube channels, it was great to see the Golden Globes back.
