An initiative by Editora Melhoramentos and Post em Branco, who came together to talk about mental health in Janeiro Branco
The chest tightens as the heart races. Breathing, panting, from the feeling that the end is near, that a bomb is about to explode. No, anxiety is not mimimi. In Brazil alone, the WHO (World Health Organization) estimates that more than 18 million people suffer from anxiety, which is equivalent to almost 10% of the population.
In order to draw attention to the importance of mental health in the month dedicated to the cause, Editora Melhoramentos and publicist Daniel Portuga, creator of the Instagram profile Post em Branco, joined forces for a project that seeks to shed light on the topic.
In order to show how to live with anxiety, reports of people who experience this difficulty were included in the entry for the word ‘Ansiedade’ in the Michaelis dictionary, created at the end of the 19th century, published and marketed by Editora Melhoramentos.
During the month of January, when looking for the meaning of the word anxiety in Michaelis online, in addition to the technical concept or the etymology of the word, it will be possible to see a real and faithful explanation of the feelings of those who live with the disorder, based on testimonials sensitive and sincere.
The campaign also brings publications on the social networks of Post em Branco and Editora Melhoramentos to reach the public.
The idea for the partnership came from publicist Daniel Portuga, creator of Post em Branco, and diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). We cannot trivialize what anxiety is, people have different stories and therefore, each one has their own explanation of how they deal with their anxieties on a daily basis. Nothing is more sincere and inclusive than putting these very genuine statements in the dictionary to help verbalize the perception of anxiety, he explains.
From the marketing team at Melhoramentos, Talita Zanqueta says that the project brings a ‘more human side’ to the dictionary, ‘including real unedited reports, in a totally informative and creative way’.
All the messages mentioned in the ‘An-si-e-da-de Explained’ project were published and sent spontaneously on the Post em Branco profile on Instagram. However, the names and profile images of the authors of each statement were not displayed, to preserve people.
