Netflix has announced that Cobra Kai, one of its most successful Emmy-nominated comedies that continued the Karate Kid story for a new generation, will return for its sixth and final season. No airdate has been confirmed, but fans were promised it would arrive “soon”.
Co-creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg penned a letter, designed to look like it was written by the directors of All Valley Karate Championship, thanking fans for embarking on this journey with them and saying they ended the series on their terms. In an excerpt, she says:
“Our goal on day one with Cobra Kai was always to end on our own terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we always envisioned. Rediscovering the world with the Karate Kid universe was our humble honor.”
Season 5 of the series premiered in September, which finally gave fans Daniel Larusso once again using his classic moves. It is noteworthy that the creators of the series do not rule out that the characters may return in spin-offs in the future. Hurwitz told Entertainment Weekly last year:
“All options are on the table. It is a special entertainment production that we are connected to. And now, even more than five years ago, we’re dying to explore more.”
Cobra Kai season 5 also gave fans the show’s biggest nerve-wracking moment. The latest episode saw Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), their respective dojos, along with Cobra Kai, earn their place in the international karate tournament known as the Sekai Taikai.
Cobra Kai has been nominated for eight Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series in 2021.
