YouTube will take a step forward in user-focused innovation solutions, bringing more accessibility and inclusion to Paulistão 2023. In addition to traditional narration, the platform will provide audio description in 6 championship games, providing a more inclusive experience for fans with visual impairment accompany the matches. At the moment, YouTube already offers closed captioning for hearing-impaired users. The resource will be used for the first time in the derby between São Paulo and Corinthians, on the 29th of January.
The feature provides more inclusive sports broadcasting, directly benefiting people with visual impairments and enabling an immersive experience through YouTube’s Multi Audio functionality. For this, YouTube teamed up with Sondery, a consultancy specializing in creative accessibility, with a team of consultants with and without disabilities for planning and co-creating the experience. For Paulistão, the transmission team will be formed by narrators, audio describers and visually impaired consultants.
According to data from the 2010 IBGE Census, in São Paulo alone, there are now 3 million people with some type of disability, which is equivalent to 7.29% of the entire population of the State.
