Paramount+ has just confirmed the hiring of narrators, sports presenters and journalists, João Guilherme and Nivaldo Prieto, and commentators and journalists, Alê Xavier and Paulo Vinicius Coelho (PVC). The professionals have an exclusive contract for free-to-air and pay-TV and arrive to compose the Paramount+ sports team that will broadcast CONMEBOL Libertadores and CONMEBOL Sul-Americana, in Brazil. The rights to both tournaments start in 2023 and run for four years until 2026.
As part of the new sports strategy, Paramount+ has partnered with LiveMode. The company, which is also a partner of FIFA and the Federacão Paulista de Futebol, will function as a transmission hub for all matches on the premium streaming service. To this end, a studio was set up and equipped in São Paulo to receive the four new home talents in certain matches.
ABOUT CONTRACTORS
Improving the approach with the fans by bringing experience and innovation in broadcasts to the platform is João Guilherme’s understanding. “I have always been very concerned about the relationship with the public. More and more we have to know how to interact with the fan’s wishes during a narration. He demands attention and focus from each bid and hopes that it is aligned with the look of the technological resources available”. João Guilherme began his career on Rádio, with passages through Carioca, Tupi, Manchete, Tamoio, Tropical and Gazeta (SP). On TV, he worked on SporTV, Fox Sports and ESPN. As a narrator and presenter, he has covered seven World Cups and six Olympic Games. He presented the programs Arena SporTV, Expediente Futebol and ESPN FC. He has narrated seven CONMEBOL Libertadores finals.
For Nivaldo Prieto, the arrival at Paramount+ represents an important challenge regarding the growth of streaming in the country. He says:
“Brazilians have naturally accepted the arrival of new players and I believe that we will exceed all expectations in the transmission of games in both competitions.”
Prieto started in sports journalism in 1992 as a narrator and presenter, participated in coverage of World Cups, Olympics, Winter Olympics, Pan American Games, NBA, Motorsport, Motorcycling, among others. On television, he worked at Rede Globo, TV Cultura, SBT, Rede Record, Rede Bandeirantes, Fox Sports and ESPN.
São Paulo native Paulo Vinícius Coelho (PVC) will join the team of commentators at Paramount+, alongside Alê Xavier. PVC worked in the newsrooms Diário do Grande ABC, Placar, Lance, Folha de S. Paulo, O Estado de S. Paulo and CBN. The commentator participated in the coverage of five World Cups and is the author of six books on football and journalism. He worked at ESPN Brasil, Fox Sports and SporTV. He comments:
“It’s amazing to be with a century-old company like Paramount. Who has never entered a cinema and seen the symbol of the mountain surrounded by stars, present since the beginning of the history of cinema and TV. We arrive at the sport in Brazil at the same time that Rodrigo Santoro invades the world in the Wolf Pack series, all of us for Paramount. The idea is to make Brazil climb to the highest point of this new mountain, which is streaming.”
The commentator Alê Xavier is a former soccer player and, in journalism, she worked for Globo Esporte, SporTV, Esporte Espetacular, Desimpedidos channel and, currently, runs Passando a Bola, shown on YouTube. She covered the World Cup in Qatar, in 2022. Alê says:
“This is a project carefully thought out and put together to meet the expectations of an audience that continues to change, especially with the growth of football-oriented content on the internet. The information, analysis and reading of the matches, together with personal and close communication, help build the relationship with those watching us. I am excited.”
