Last Thursday, February 2, journalist and presenter Glória Maria died at the age of 73. Having been present on Rede Globo for decades, she marked generations with her reports, whether on national or international politics or even on lighter topics, such as her travels around the world.
Considered a complete professional within the field, Glória shone both as a journalist and as a presenter. However, many may not understand the importance that Glória Maria has, not only for Brazilian television, but for the entire branch of communication in Brazil.

Her career trajectory began in 1970, when she was nominated for a position at Globo. Since then, much has happened until the journalist has become a reference in her profession, including having participated in historic moments, such as being the first reporter to appear live on Jornal Nacional, or even covering the inauguration of international presidents.
Glória Maria’s presence for future generations also breaks paradigms. Unfortunately, it is rare that we find black personalities in the journalistic environment who have reached a level close to what she reached. In an unfavorable reality, Glória even suffered racist episodes with former presidents of Brazil, in the case of João Figueiredo, the last president of the military dictatorship.
Even so, Glória Maria grew up at the station and became one of its main names, opening doors and creating hope for future generations that may be inspired by her career. Undoubtedly, his presence will be missed by the Brazilian media, even though his role and importance will never be forgotten.
