Despite stiff competition on Sunday nights, The Last of Us continues to grow in viewership week after week. 7.5 million viewers tuned into the series this weekend on HBO and HBO Max, according to press releases from the channel.
In Episode 4 of the series, Joel and Ellie continue to battle thugs and other threats, while the series has to contend with competition for viewership at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards this week, after feuding with the AFC Championship last weekend. Despite this, Episode 4’s figure of 7.5 million is a 17% increase from Episode 3, which drew 6.4 million.
However, HBO itself conceded defeat this week, with the Super Bowl taking place this Sunday, the network is making The Last of Us Episode 5 available on HBO Max on Friday, February 10th. The game is one of the main events on American television, having the most expensive price for advertisers in the world.
The Last of Us is the adaptation of the Sony PlayStation game of the same name and stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, along with Anna Torv, Nick Offerman, Murray Bartlett and others. The series is in its first season, but has been renewed for a second season since last week.
