Marco Giannelli and Iron Brito are on the Film and Photography juries, respectively, and talk about their expectations with the festival, in addition to topics such as the use of artificial intelligence in advertising
For the second consecutive year, PROPMARK repeats the project with a series of interviews for PROPCAST with the Brazilian judges selected by the organization of the D&AD Awards, which returns to the face-to-face format in 2023. The festival takes place between May 7th and 10th, in London. The first episode of the podcast series was recorded with Marco Giannelli, Pernil, CCO of AlmapBBDO, and Iron Brito, creative director of Almap. Pernil is on the Film jury, while Brito will be judging Photography.
This will be the first time that Brito participates in an awards jury. I’ve never judged any festival and I’m starting with a very high level, I’m even a little intimidated, he says. For him, being together physically creates a different atmosphere. And you can interact and exchange more with people. This will inevitably reflect on the way things go, Brito opines.
In the opinion of Pernil, who participated in the D&AD remote jury two years ago, the experience of everything with live people is much richer. For the fundamental creation part and also in the discussions, everything gets more interesting. It is essential to be there, apart from the place where the sensational D&AD takes place, in an old brewery, The Old Truman Brewery. The city’s vibe is also fantastic, he points out.
Brito believes that part of his contribution to the jury will come from his social profile, his experiences, place of speech and origin. I think that in this sense there will be a good mix from what you can see in the list and photos of the judges, he says, who is from Tocantins.
About the judgment, Pernil recalls that the award level in D&AD is very high, especially with craft. I think it’s a super-critical award. Commonplace creativity for us to say, but a film has to have a great idea, be unexpected. The production of pieces is very meticulous at a festival like D&AD. This concern with the craft is super important.
J Brito points out that photography has the power to speak to anyone, from any country. The photo still has that power. At the agency, we are discussing a lot the power of synthesizing an idea in an image.
AlmapBBDO’s creatives also talk about the use of artificial intelligence in advertising, among other topics.
