Professional also continues at the head of TV Globo and Ricardo Waddington ends cycle at the company
Globo’s CEO, Paulo Marinho, announced this Tuesday (14th) that, in addition to being director of TV Globo, Amauri Soares will also become director of Estdios Globo. After a 40-year career, Ricardo Waddington decided to end his cycle at the company.
Below is the full text of the internal statement released by Paulo Marinho:
Ol, time Globo,
I assumed the leadership of the company at the beginning of last year with the security of having a group of talented, creative and competent directors by my side. A strong team that faced the task of moving forward with the transformation of Globo, already formed by all our integrated platforms and businesses. When Ricardo Waddington approached me to talk about his plans to end his beautiful cycle at Globo when he completed 40 years with the company, which happens this year, I had no doubts that he would find his successor in this group.
At the head of the Studios is a professional with Ricardo Waddington’s track record of success and, in charge of TV Globo, another with the vast experience of Amauri Soares, two great executives of Brazilian television. A privilege for any communication company. Thus, it was natural to choose Amauri to join the competent team assembled by Ricardo and to advance in our permanent project of modernizing and strengthening Globo Studios as the largest center of creation and audiovisual production in Brazil – and one of the largest in the world. A major client and partner of Estdios Globo, Amauri Soares will have a lot to contribute to enhancing our entertainment production for all Globo platforms.
Ricardo likes to remember that he arrived here as a boy. At the age of 22, he signed his first contract with Globo. From then until now, 40 years of a journey have been told by great and important stories in soap operas, series and variety shows that marked not only his trajectory, but that of Globo and all Brazilians. Quatro por Quatro, História de Amor, Por Amor, Laos de Famlia, Mulheres Apaixonadas, Cabocla, A Favorita, Cordel Encantado and Avenida Brasil are just some of the telenovelas he has directed. In addition to series and miniseries such as Presena de Anita, Mad Maria, A Cura and Por Toda a Minha Vida, a work with several Emmy nominations, Ricardo has also dedicated himself to other genres. Among the Variety programs, he was in front of Amor e Sexo, Domingo do Fausto and Altas Horas, among others.
Ricardo was assistant director, program director, core director, genre director, production company director and, since 2020, director of Estdios Globo. In this role, he combined his artistic vision with the needs of the business for Studios to make a fundamental contribution to our transformation journey. Also demonstrating great management skills, he led the production company to seek excellence and updated the creation and production processes of our content, resulting in the most modern and efficient version that we know today of Estdios Globo. The marks that Ricardo leaves on this company are forever.
J Amauri Soares tells fondly that, when he joined Jornalismo da Globo in 1987, the station was showing the telenovela O Outro, directed by Ricardo. In 15 years of experience in Journalism, Amauri was editor-in-chief of Fantstico, executive editor of Jornal da Globo, editor-in-chief of Jornal Nacional, director of Journalism in So Paulo and executive director of Central Globo de Jornalismo. For six years, he was executive director of Globo Internacional in New York. Back in Brazil, he created and led Globo’s Events department and, subsequently, was Programming director for seven years. With the integration of the companies, he assumed the direction of Canal TV Globo, also commanding the network formed by our regional offices and affiliates throughout the country. He will now combine this mission with that of leader of Globo Studios, putting his deep knowledge of the Brazilian public and vast experience in the audiovisual sector at the service of all Globo platforms and channels.
During the next few months of transition, Ricardo and Amauri will work together. As of June, Amauri will take over the leadership of Estdios Globo and both the Estdios and TV Globo will continue to operate as independent units within the company’s structure.
On behalf of myself and my family, I thank you both for your dedication and partnership, essential for the next steps of this company that we are transforming together, every day.
