The first day of the second edition of South Summit Brazil, in Porto Alegre, was attended by names from the national and international market for innovation and entrepreneurship. Around 14,000 people passed through the event this Wednesday to check out the 400 lectures and debates and activities promoted by the event and the hotel chain reached more than 90% occupancy.
After the opening of the event, in the presence of municipal and state authorities and the likes of Governor Eduardo Leite and Mayor Sebastião Melo, José Renato Hopf, Thiago Ribeiro, President and CEO of South Summit Brazil, respectively, and María Benjumea also participated. , founder of the South Summit, who welcomed the beginning of the meeting that mobilized the world ecosystem of innovation and technology and which is currently the largest in Latin America. The Spanish María, points out:
“I am delighted to see South Summit Brazil bringing together innovation and entrepreneurship actors from around the world in a single space. It’s nice to see that this audience is very rich and thirsty not only for connections and business, but also for sustainable solutions. I am very excited about the transformation we are doing together. We have a planet and we have to take care of it. We are all part. I feel like a gaucho from Porto Alegre.”
Connecting the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, entrepreneurs and startups with an eye toward sustainability and attracting more investments is one of the reasons for the success of the event in Porto Alegre. “The South Summit is a watershed in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. Porto Alegre has become the hub for innovative companies committed to the environment. You don’t build anything big alone. All of you here are responsible for what we live and see. In addition, the event boosts the city’s economy, which has almost the entire hotel network occupied with visitors. Only a city prepared and with the structure of Porto Alegre could host an event of this magnitude”, says José Renato Hopf.
The second edition on Brazilian soil further reinforces the ESG agenda as a strategic and transversal pillar present in the DNA of the event since its creation. All planning and operations are guided by the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, of which South Summit is a member. CEO Thiago Ribeiro celebrates the result of the Brazilian re-launch:
“We have once again reached our goal of connecting startups, companies and investment funds, driving innovation not only in Porto Alegre, but also worldwide. The South Summit undoubtedly ranks among the best events in the world whose mission is to foster entrepreneurship and commitment to sustainability.”
Among the outstanding speakers at the event, Luiza Helena Trajano, chairman of the Board of Magazine Luiza; Gustavo Werneck, CEO of Gerdau; Tânia Cosentino, General Manager of Microsoft in Brazil; and Celso Athayde, founder of CUFA and Favela Holding. Responsible for the success of Magalu, Luiza Helena attracted the attention and got a lot of applause from the audience and continued to be loved after the lecture. Among the largest retailers in Brazil, the executive spoke about social and digital inclusion, the future of Brazil and about women: “I am Brazil. I never joined any political party. We need to unite Brazil for public policies to work. Brazil is good, what’s missing is for us to take over the country and improve people’s lives. I keep making mistakes, but one quality of mine is to make things happen and not be ashamed of making mistakes. I learned from all my mistakes, I just don’t like to repeat them. I am in contact with Nelson Mandela’s wife and, in four years, we will end violence against women in the world.”
