Mother Nature, biodiversity, Amazon. Celebrating one of our greatest national symbols, the Amazon Rainforest, Nike and CBF launched last Monday, March 3rd, the new uniforms of the Brazilian National Team. Inspired by Mother Nature and featuring advanced technologies, the new shirts reinforce the brand’s commitment to women’s football and the desire for the sport to grow, flourish and bear fruit.
The uniform was developed using Nike’s most modern innovations in materials, created especially to meet the needs of players. Along with the greater investment made by the brand in specific innovations for women’s sport, important insights were obtained that allowed us to know more than ever about the power of the female body in the game of football. This knowledge extends to the use of computer-designed material based on data in the uniforms, with the aim of precisely meeting and exceeding the needs of the athletes. For this project, the objective was simple: to ensure that the athletes feel comfortable and have ease of movement on the field.
The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, says:
“It is very important to have a partner like Nike uniting the highest technology with symbols of Brazilian biodiversity. There is nothing more appropriate to honor the Women’s National Team and, at the same time, contribute to the performance gain of our athletes. We are happy to see prints on the shirts that will be used by the National Team, attributes that, added to the talent of our players, will bring messages about preservation and sustainability to the world. And that also show that women’s football in Brazil is, every day, developing and inspiring new generations. This is the mission I have in my mandate: to take women’s football to the level it deserves to occupy.”
The complete collection of Brazil brings the traditional colors green, blue and yellow and features an exclusive print, bringing a bold look that preserves the individuality of the players, on and off the field.
Debinha, striker of the Brazilian National Team, says:
“O This year’s tournament will be extremely important for us, in addition to bringing the greatest technologies and releases from Nike in our uniforms, we will start a new chapter in the National Team, with the possibility of writing a new story on and off the field. We were already very happy in 2019, but now, in 2023, we know that we have even more to show and conquer.”
the new shirt
After the 2022 collection in honor of the jaguar, one of the main national symbols, the new Amarelinha celebrates the biodiversity of Brazil and the Amazon, featuring a print of tropical foliage – inspired by the leaves of Buriti, Jaci and Jarina – inserted in the texture of the shirt’s mesh throughout the piece. Just like last year’s uniform, the design features “Dynamic Yellow”, now with green details on the sleeves and collar. The shorts are blue with green numbering, while the white socks feature green and blue accents.
Continuing the inspiration in the Amazon, the new second uniform plays with the deep and vivid colors of the landscape. Entirely in the color Supreme Blue, the shirt features a variant of the exclusive print of the first uniform with the tropical leaves of the print concentrated on the sleeve. The white shorts have the numbering in green, and the blue socks with details in green and yellow complete the kit.
On the inside of the two shirts, at the nape of the neck, there is a special graphic in honor of “Mother Nature”, in a reference to the unique Amazon Rainforest and its biome. The socks have the inscription “Brasil” on the back.
Tuned to the needs of women
The biggest stage in world sport deserves the most innovative technology. This year, all Nike Teams collections feature new DRI-FIT ADV technology, the brand’s latest innovation in high-performance material designed to fit the body in motion. When creating the material for the new uniforms, Nike designers prioritized mobility, ventilation and, most importantly, sustainability.
The material of the new shirts and shorts for the players removes sweat from the skin and ensures faster evaporation. With this, athletes stay dry, ventilated, comfortable and focused.
Using design methods not available in 2019, the Nike Football team was able to intersperse mesh with ribbed textures, depending on required performance characteristics such as fabric flexibility or compression. Designers took advantage of the most modern and advanced technologies in body mapping, 4D data and state-of-the-art digital design to fine-tune the material of the garments, pixel by pixel, giving resistance, mobility and ventilation in the exact points where these characteristics are needed. .
Following athlete feedback, Nike developed the Nike Leak Protection: Periodmenstrual innovation built into the Pro Short they know and love and can be worn under their game shorts.
Jordan Katcher, VP Women’s Global Sport ApparelExplain:
“We are excited to offer this innovation to all female athletes playing for Nike-sponsored federations this year. Professional players play two halves of 45 minutes without breaks. Many told us that they may spend several minutes in the field worrying about leaking menses. When we showed them this innovation, they told us how grateful they were to have these shorts to help bring more confidence to the pitch.”
Athletes will also have access to Nike’s newest range of Tops, allowing them to select the style and level of support they are most comfortable playing in.
Sustainability and Environment
It will be the first time for Nike in this world scenario in which all uniforms of the Women’s National Teams will have shields of the confederations, Swooshes (Nike’s logo) and finishes made with 100% Nike Grind, extending to the men’s uniforms. This process is part of a series of recycled materials, developed by the brand from production leftovers that do not reach the consumer, from used post-consumer sneakers collected through the “Reuse-a-Shoe” program and from shoes that cannot be sold. .
Nike designers thought about sustainability when designing every detail of the new uniforms while maintaining performance and innovation. The uniforms are made from 100% recycled polyester from recycled plastic bottles, reducing waste and impact without compromising performance. Using recycled polyester reduces carbon emissions by up to 30% compared to virgin polyester and helps divert an average of 1 billion plastic bottles from landfills and waterways annually.
The Nike Football team took the creation of the kits one step further: they used digital prototypes to reduce waste. Thanks to the most modern and advanced machines for product creation, the number of samples created for prototyping purposes has been reduced by around 85% compared to the 2018 processes.
This design, which considers sustainability from the beginning, extends to the training uniforms, the pre-match shirts, the jackets for the anthem and the collections for the fans. Nike’s entire football apparel line is produced with at least 80% recycled material.
