Journalism is still one of the most consumed genres in Brazil, according to the April issue of Data Stories. Among the five main topics of interest for consumption in the media, news dominates preference, marking presence in two positions: 1 national and local news, 2 sports in general, 3 international news, 4 academic studies/Education and 5 football.
According to the Target Group Index Global Quick View, which brings data from 35 countries, Brazil is in 1st place in reading news via the internet, with 80% of internet users reading news online.
When it comes to television, more than 26% of the total time devoted to linear channels (open and closed channels) in 2022, i.e., 26%, went to the journalistic genre, which occupied 9% of the programming schedule in the same period.
A drinking intensity index of 287 is any number above 100 considered positive.
In 2022, there was a 5.2% increase in the average consumption time of journalistic channels, mainly driven by the increase in the public watching reports, 648 in 2021 to 1953 in 2022, and debates, 1158 to 1711, motivated in large part by the choose.
The coverage index (consumption of accompanied content) on TV of the journalistic content genre is 11% higher in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period of 2022.
In the first quarter of 2023, the metropolitan regions with the highest average daily reach in the journalistic genre were Salvador (5%), Recife (4.2%), Rio de Janeiro (4.1%), Vitória (4%) and Curitiba (3.9%).
Considering the average daily time, Rio de Janeiro has the highest consumption among these squares (3737), followed by Salvador (3602), Vitória (3530), Curitiba (3455) and Recife (3123).
The high consumption of this journalistic content also draws the attention of brands to advertise and reach the consumer. In 2022, 34% of the insertions on Open TV were made in journalistic programs, with emphasis on the categories: Supermarkets, Hypermarkets and Wholesalers, Public Campaigns, Health Services, Department Stores and Other Consumer Services.
