Determination of the National Consumer Secretariat says that the phrase about the Fake News PL is a company position and that ‘there is no transparency’
Linked to the Ministry of Justice, the National Consumer Secretariat asked Google to flag as ‘advertising’ content that was broadcast by the company on bill 2630, the PL of Fake News.
The decision, signed by Wadih Damous, says that ‘in the case of an advertisement against PL 2630, published on the opening page of the Google search engine, there is no transparency, it is a publicity report by Google itself expressing its position regarding the PL, without any signage’.
The text also states that, in the case of paid advertising, ‘usually the Google result informs that there is sponsorship. In this case, there is no information about the advertising nature of the material’.
Until the beginning of the afternoon of today (2), Google’s homepage carried the message “The bill of fake news can increase the confusion about what is true or false in Brazil”. By clicking on the text, the user was taken to a text against PL 2630, whose text was “How PL 2630 can make your internet worse”.
On the 26th, the Chamber of Deputies approved the urgent request for analysis of the fake news Bill. The proposal wants to create the Brazilian Law of Freedom, Responsibility and Transparency on the Internet.
