Partnership aims to break the cycle of poverty in Favela Haiti with a scalable and sustainable methodology
“When we transform the surroundings, we transform the whole world”. This was the philosophy used by The Town when announcing a partnership with Gerando Falces, the State of São Paulo, the City of São Paulo, Gerdau, the Volkswagen Group Foundation and Vozes das Periferias. The initiative is part of the Por Um Mundo Melhor pillar, born at Rock in Rio in 2001.
The union between the companies, institutions and entities aims, through the action promoted in Favela Haiti, to ensure the fulfillment of goals that make up the Favela 3D project (Digital, Dignified and Developed) and to break the cycle of poverty in the community located in the Southeast Zone of So Paulo with a scalable and sustainable methodology that is being installed for community development.
This Tuesday (2), the City Hall and Gerando Falces signed the protocol of intentions so that the actions are carried out with the project that aims to impact 290 families by promoting community strengthening, employability, entrepreneurship, professional training and individualized monitoring of families until December 2024.

Located in the Southeast Region of So Paulo, Favela Haiti was chosen by Gerando Falces to be the fifth Favela 3D in Brazil, providing a better quality of life for the almost one thousand people who live there. The work in the region began to be put into practice in 2022, when a study was carried out in the area that identified the percentage of people who were between poverty and the beginning of dignity in the classification of the search for breaking the cycle of poverty.
After the diagnosis, the planning stage began in co-creation with the local community, where the most sensitive topics for the residents of the community were prioritized and the planning of urgent actions was developed, based on three fronts, namely urbanism and housing, income generation and social development.
Now, with the signing of the protocol of intentions, The Town, Gerando Falces, São Paulo State, São Paulo City Hall, Gerdau, Volkswagen Group Foundation and Vozes das Periferias are ready to start the first phase of the project this May. The expectation is that by the end of June the first project will already be presented, which will be carried out together with the residents.
“Favela 3D is a program of public interest that aims to overcome chronic poverty in the territories contemplated. The favelas are a hub of creativity, innovation, culture and entrepreneurship and, with a decent urban structure and the right opportunities, in addition to the support of different actors of society, these people can leverage the growth of Brazil”, emphasized Edu Lyra, founder and CEO of Gerando Falces.
Through the Municipality of So Paulo, the project now has institutional cooperation, exchange of information, technical cooperation and development of actions. Gerdau will work closely with Favela 3D to revitalize housing in communities and make housing one of the axes of its social strategy, while the Volkswagen Group Foundation will be responsible for social mobility and inclusion, with investments in initiatives to generate income. income, entrepreneurship, professional qualification and community leadership.
