The CBLOL (Brazilian League of Legends Championship), the biggest event related to the game here in Brazil, was also affected by the pandemic. Although the COVID situation is expected to improve due to the vaccine, new health measures were taken in relation to the event.
Riot Games, the producer of League of Legends and main organizer of CBLOL, verified the health situation in the city of São Paulo. After the evaluation, the company decided to keep the first phases of the tournament remotely.
The decision was announced this Tuesday, January 18, through the company’s twitter. In a linked note, they explain that the main reasons for the decision to have been taken are the new variant of the corona, Ômicron, and the outbreak of Influenza that currently affects several regions of the country.

Although the competition itself happens remotely at the beginning, with players and coaches participating from a distance, the same will not happen with the casters. In the information from Riot it is said that narrators and commentators will work from the studio, as it would be possible to keep everyone safe with few people on site.
Although the information is about the beginning of the CBLOL, it is not yet known when the competition will have an audience. The event for now will continue online indefinitely, until the situation proves to be safe enough to have the fans and players back in person.
CBLOL 2022 starts on Monday, January 22nd, with the match between LOUD and FURIA Sports. The competition will have a first phase that will last until April 23 and will have an initial prize pool of R$ 400 thousand reais, divided between the 10 teams that participate in the beginning of the tournament.
