Microsoft announced on Tuesday (18) that it is acquiring Activision Blizzard, a company that develops games such as Diablo, Call of Duty and Candy Crush. According to the company, the acquisition is expected to accelerate the growth of Microsoft’s gaming business across mobile, PC, console, as well as assist in the metaverse.
The transaction is valued at US$ 68.7 billion, equivalent to almost R$ 380 billion. In a statement, posted on your website, Microsoft said that when the acquisition is complete, it will become ‘the world’s third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony’.
The acquisition will include franchises from Activision, Blizzard and King studios such as Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, Call of Duty and Candy Crush, as well as global eSports activities through Major League Gaming.
“Games are the most dynamic category of entertainment across all platforms and will play a key role in the development of platforms in the metaverse,” said Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s president and CEO, in a statement posted on the company’s website. “We are ushering in a new era of gaming that puts gamers and creators first and makes gaming safe, inclusive and accessible to everyone.”
