OLX Brasil, one of the largest online buying and selling platforms in Brazil, in agreement with its shareholders, Prosus and Adevinta, announced last week the appointment of Olivier Aizac as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). As of June 1, Aizac (on cover, left) takes over from Andries Oudshoorn (on cover, right).
Andries led the company through three key moments of business growth. In 2011, he moved to Brazil to found bomnegócio.com and scaled the company to 17 million unique buyers and sellers in 2014. The following year, bomnegocio.com and OLX merged, starting a second wave of growth, both of users and revenue. Revenue grew 17.5 times, from BRL 20 million in 2014 to BRL 350 million in 2019, reaching 100 million unique buyers and sellers. The acquisition of Grupo Zap, marketplace leader in the segment in the country, was held in 2020, starting a third stage with high profit growth and promoting the turnaround of the stagnant and loss-making company acquired, with consistent results in the first quarter of 2023.
OLX Brasil earned BRL 987 million in 2022. OLX and ZAP+ have established themselves as leading brands in their segments of real estate, automobiles and used products. OLX is also a pioneer in circular economy in Brazil, encouraging the purchase and sale of second-hand products.
“We extend our most sincere gratitude to Andries for his exceptional leadership and significant contributions to OLX Brasil. His strategic vision and tireless dedication set the bar high for the company. As we begin this new chapter, we are confident that Olivier, with his proven experience and deep understanding of the digital market, will continue to guide the company on its path to success”, says Ajay Bhatia, Chairman of the Board of OLX Brasil.
Olivier’s career to date has focused on developing different digital businesses, including the founding and consolidation of leboncoin.fr, the marketplace leader in France and who was part of the Adevinta portfolio, in addition to having served on the board of OLX from 2015 to 2018. He has also led Webedia Brasil, a digital entertainment company, in addition to Holu Solar, startup of green technology. During the leadership transition, Andries will continue to advise and strategically support Olivier as he assumes his new position.
“It is a great honor to take the helm of a company that has revolutionized the online buying and selling market. Building on Andries’ achievements, I am committed to nurturing the team’s innovative spirit, further driving growth and taking OLX Brasil to its next successful chapter,” adds the new CEO.
