The piece was intended to advertise the new fleet of flights between London and São Paulo, but drew attention due to the stereotypes used
Social networks were flooded with criticism of the Virgin Atlantic airline this Tuesday (7) due to the launch of a campaign starring Brazilian actress Juliana Paes.
The objective of the piece was to announce the new fleet of flights between London and So Paulo, but what caught the attention of users of the platform was the stereotyped way the company used to refer to Brazil.
With carnivalesque clothes and props, Juliana Paes assumes the role of stewardess, showing passengers the traditional procedures of the plane, such as the emergency exit. The piece also shows items that are not part of Brazilian culture, such as maracas.
On Twitter, where the repercussion was greater, Brazilians invaded the comments criticizing the campaign. Among those dissatisfied with the piece were some Brazilian brands and profiles of companies such as Claro, Duolingo, Avon, Shopee and Guaran.

The commotion was so great that the actress herself went to her hammocks and spoke. According to Juliana, the campaign was recorded before the coronavirus pandemic and it was supposed to be a comedy.
The idea was precisely to make fun of these stereotypes, to do something quite absurd. I got the joke for that. But after all these years, the result was not as expected, which is a shame, because this recording was so much fun.

Still on Twitter, a user joked with the actress saying that “only those who lived through a confusing briefing know”, who replied that “only those who lived through a confusing briefing know”.
