The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God closed yet another agreement with TV Gazeta, just six months after signing a R$15 million contract with the broadcaster. This time, the religious institution led by Edir Macedo bought four more hours of morning programming, remaining on the air until noon. Prime time, from 8 pm to 2 am, also belongs to the church.
According to the investigation of journalist Ives Ferro, from Notícias da TV, there is still no signed contract, but the agreement has already been made between the parties and a sum of money has been advanced to Gazeta.
The broadcaster did not reveal the future of other attractions in the house that will be affected. The programs that coincide with the schedule are Revista da Cidade, presented by Regiane Tápias, and Gazeta Shopping, a television catalog of real estate, vehicles and decoration.
Gazeta’s programming also has partners such as Ateliê na TV, broadcast only on weekdays, and Ultrafarma, which shows its catalog on weekends. In January of this year, the Universal Church bought four hours of the night band for BRL 1.2 million a month until the end of 2023, totaling a contract worth BRL 15 million.
Universal Church broadcasts its content morning and night on TV Gazeta, from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, prime time is occupied by two other programs that also bought space: Programa Seguro, from 8:30 pm to 9:00 pm, and Rav Sany Live Show, from 11 pm to 12:00 am.
Layoffs and wage cuts
TV Gazeta gives indications that it is going through a financial crisis. According to columnist Flavio Ricco, from R7, Regina Volpato will leave the command of the Women program in the coming months. The presenter refused to continue on the attraction after having her salary reduced by 20%, a number considered far below the market average salary.
In addition to the risky card for one of its main journalists, Gazeta also imposed a salary reduction for other presenters and employees. Also according to Ricco, the superior order would be to dismiss anyone who did not accept to continue with the smaller amounts. This was the case of Leão Lobo, who left Gazeta last month. He had been hired for three years and ran Revista da Cidade together with Regiane Tápias.
“I love the Gazette. It’s like my parents’ house. But, they explained to me that my salary was high for the size of the station, and I insist on maintaining my salary standard, not only for myself, but for all colleagues in our area”, lamented the journalist, in an interview with UOL .
This year, the broadcaster has already had more embezzlements. Presenter Celso Cardoso resigned in March, after 32 years at the company, because the broadcaster would not have fulfilled a promotion promise made in 2008. Flávio Prado, Mesa Redonda presenter and 20-year veteran of Gazeta, was dismissed in February.
