If you love that smell of coffee and can’t go a day without having a few cups, you’ll be happy to know that Brazilian production of the grain between 2023 and 2024 should reach 66.65 million 60kg bags, an increase of 13% over the previous season, according to specialized consultancy. The news fits like a glove for the 2nd edition of the São Paulo Coffee Festival, which returns to the capital of São Paulo starting today (23rd) and continues until Sunday (25th) with an extensive program and an expected audience of 15 thousand people, 3 thousand to more than the 1st edition, in 2022.
The international event that was born more than 10 years ago and attracts a large audience in cities such as Amsterdam, Cape Town, London, Los Angeles, Milan and New York, brings to São Paulo the celebration of the coffee community and culture, with activities ranging from tastings, through interactive and sensory workshops, to workshops with great specialists of this universe.
Held in Brazil by Revista Espresso/Café Editora in partnership with Allegra Events, the São Paulo Coffee Festival will have around 100 brands and sponsorships from Três Corações, Café Orfeu, Melitta and Nescafé, showing a growth of 60% compared to the first edition and showing that the project came to reaffirm the success it has had in other countries.
The experience with special coffee continues to be the protagonist of the event, which, in addition to the presence of coffee shops and micro roasters, brings to the public presentations such as live Latte Art, and recipes for classic and contemporary drinks made from the bean, steaming techniques and a lot more.
Another highlight is the ‘Sensory Experience’, an area sponsored by Nescafé, full of sensory attractions. The big news this year is that there will be two rooms for up to 15 people with simultaneous programming, with two options during the day.
The festival also features the return of the Copa Barista, a championship that this year is sponsored by Melitta, and will award cash to the best competitors in the preparation of espressos, cappuccinos and filtered drinks. Entries for the seventh edition must be made between May 29 and 30, 2023, by filling out the application form on the Espresso Magazine website.
The 2023 edition will occupy the entire ground floor and first floor of the Bienal and will feature an even greater variety of gastronomic and cultural experiences. In the famous ‘A Cozinha’ area, sponsored by the brands Três Corações and A Tal da Castanha, chefs guests will present tips for pairing with coffee and special recipes. The event also has a space dedicated to roasting for those who want to know more about the process, sponsored by Café Orfeu.
Another highlight will be the music and food area. This year, ‘Café & Música’ is inspired by the format of the project in London and will be located in a central space of the festival, giving even more prominence to the musical attractions. The food court will be located outside the pavilion, 50% larger than in the previous edition.
And there’s more. São Paulo Coffee Festival and Cervejaria Tarantino created a special beer for the event. Visitors will be able to discover the exclusive drink during the three days of the initiative, at the Beer Bar. The Coffee Lager (5.1%) of the festival is a Vienna Lager style beer infused with Catuaí Amarelo coffee from Serra da Canastra. In addition to the exclusive novelty, the event will also feature other traditional Tarantino labels.
“The second year of this very important event for the Specialty Coffee category comes to reaffirm the history that is being built. As in other world capitals, this project is designed in the long term, with care at each edition. And for this year, we took into account the feedbacks last year’s participants and visitors, thus offering the best experience for the consumer”, concludes Caio Alonso, director of Café Editora and organizer of the São Paulo Coffee Festival.
