Produced by TvZero and SeuFIlme, and directed and written by Daniel Gonçalves, the documentary ‘Asexybilidade’ will have first in July at Outfest Los Angeles, one of the most relevant LGBTQIAPN+ festivals in the world. A co-production of Globo Filmes, GloboNews, Globoplay and RioFilme, the feature film seeks to demystify taboos, such as sex and sexuality, based on reports by people with disabilities.
The film also addresses issues such as ableism, the daily struggle against invisibility and the prejudiced idea that people with disabilities do not feel desire or are not desired like others.
In addition to the interviewees and the director himself, who has a disability of unknown origin that affects motor coordination, the feature’s team is also made up of some people with disabilities, such as researcher Nathália Santos, photographer Gabriela Bagrichevsky and musician Jonas Sá.
The documentary went through development laboratories in Brazil and abroad, such as the American Film Showcase, in Los Angeles; the Nuevas Miradas, in Cuba; Brasil CineMundi, in Belo Horizonte; and DocsMX in Mexico. The documentary was also selected by Good Pitch Brasil 2022 as an integral part of the ‘Edital Documentários Transformam’, a co-realization of the CSN Foundation and DOCSP.
The film is starting its career at festivals in 2023, and is expected to premiere in the first half of 2024. The film also had investments from the Audiovisual Sectorial Fund.
