Actors joined an investment group and bought 24% of Alpine shares
Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney joined the investment group that bought around 24% of the shares of the automaker Alpine, for an approximate value of 200 million euros, which corresponds to more than R$ 1 billion at the current exchange rate.
Alpine, which is fifth in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship and is represented by French drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, increases its market value with this acquisition, now worth 900 million euros, the equivalent of R$ 4.6 million. billions.
“This association is an important step towards improving our performance at all levels. The incremental revenue generated will be reinvested in the team in order to further accelerate our plan to reach the top teams in terms of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. “, explained Laurent Rossi, President of Alpine.
For the company, this union with the group of investors means that the initial plan of 100 calendar days, established in 2021, will be fulfilled. One of the goals is also to be able to dispute the F1 title within a four-year period, which corresponds to 2025.
“As sports entities of the various modalities organize themselves in order to attract foreign investors, guaranteeing security, compliance and other investment requirements of traditional companies, public figures with international fame are also interested in being part of it and, in addition to the money, they bring with them the opportunity to increase the valuation of such an investment through its projection and promotion capacity, said Ivan Martinho, sports marketing professor at ESPM.
“The profound overhaul that F1 has gone through since the entry of the Americans at its helm has generated great added value for everyone involved in the competition, especially the teams, making its attractiveness to investors substantially increase. All of this takes place within a context where the American market has become the main buyer of sports assets, regardless of the modality. Therefore, it is natural that we see more acquisitions of this type, as there are resources available, on a large scale, for such operations”, explains the lawyer specialized in law Eduardo Carlezzo, partner at Carlezzo Advogados.
This is not the first experience of actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney with sport. Both have owned Wrexham for two years and the investment in football has already paid off. This season, the club won the title of the fifth division of the English Championship after 15 years without reaching the fourth division.
In addition to Reynolds and McElhenney, renowned actor Michael B. Jordan is also part of the group of investors that acquired a part of Alpine.
“What happened at Wrexham is a portrait of the possibilities that good storytelling is capable of generating. The two helped to build this digital and content layer at the Time and the results on the field helped, not least because new revenues emerged, there was more investment and it was created a virtuous circle. Now, they arrive at an F1 embedded in the “content-storytelling” binomial, which ended up expanding and rejuvenating the audience. The documentary series “Drive to Survive” is a visible tip of this iceberg of changes, capable of attracting investors like them, Adhering to this new model and clearly motivated to expand their business portfolio. Everyone wins. Alpine, F1 and the new “dynamic duo” of sports”, points out Armnio Neto, sports business specialist and founding partner of Let’s Goal.
