Taking advantage of the proximity of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Nike has just launched the Nike Phantom Luna as the most innovative and meticulously developed boot in the brand’s history, made by women and aimed at the same audience. The model is focused on providing traction, fit and a unique gaming feel.
First, Nike reimagined traction for women. An elite player can run more than 11 kilometers over the course of a 90-minute match. The split-second changes of direction they make, determined by the boot’s spinning traction, help decide the score.
After years of study conducted by Nike’s team of scientists, engineers and engineers, the Phantom Luna comes up with a revolutionary new circular pattern of studs next to the fingers, which give the exact measure of traction. Dubbed the Nike Cyclone 360, this traction pattern lets them move with agility, precision and confidence on the turf.
The Phantom Luna’s fit has also been fine-tuned to the needs of players. The new upper design, called Nike Asym Fit, ensures the boot stays tighter around the ankle, which is what athletes asked for in the suggestions and ideas shared with the brand.
As women’s football gets more intense and the style of play focuses more on attacking as one team, players need boots that can support quick passing and accuracy as they move around the pitch. To that end, Nike has applied its latest football innovation, Nike Gripknit, to bring the best connection between boot and ball. The coating creates a ‘slimy’ feel built into the material, so the boot stays soft and flexible.
“The Phantom Luna is a direct reflection of Nike’s focus on being women’s greatest partner. From research to design, passing through the testing stage, the players were always at the center of the process. With the Phantom Luna, Nike offers a boot that’s been thoughtfully designed for them, featuring a new circular stud pattern as well as adjustments. It helps athletes move with precision and confidence when they’re on the field,” said Elysia Davis, lead researcher at the Nike Sport Research Lab.

The Nike Phantom Luna arrives to complete the look oficial of the Brazilian women who will defend our shirt in the World Cup. Seeking to value the trajectory of women and reimagine football, the brand and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) launched the “Joga Pra Semper” campaign at the beginning of last month, to promote the launch of the complete collection of the Brazilian National Team towards the Women’s World Cup from 2023.
The collection celebrates the biodiversity of Brazil and the Amazon, creating a unique narrative with a tropical foliage print inspired by Buriti, Jaci and Jarina leaves.
