Last Friday (30), Grupo Globo announced the departure of presenter Manoel Soares without giving details on the issue. Soares was dismissed from both Encontro com Patrícia Poeta, a program he co-hosted in the mornings on TV Globo, and Papo de Segunda, an interview program on GNT. And the public seems to have approved the broadcaster’s decision!
With Patrícia Poeta on vacation, the Meeting will be led by Tati Machado and Valéria Almeida, who are already part of the attraction’s fixed team. On the next 17th, Poeta will resume the presentation of the program, which after a year on the air with the current format, will have news. The program Papo de Segunda, from GNT, passed this week to the command of João Vicente de Castro.
The former global presenter spoke on Instagram shortly after the release of the official statement, also without giving details of the resignation.
“Friends, I would like to share with you that today we close a chapter in my professional history. I’m leaving TV Globo after six years. It was a time of learning and joy, where I reached the homes of thousands of Brazilians (…) It’s okay, I’m not sad or hurt. Quite the contrary, I have many friends within TV Globo that I will take with me for the rest of my life. This is not the end of anything, just the beginning of a new cycle, we have many cool projects and I want to share this with you”, said Soares, in a video.
Disagreements with Patrícia Poeta?
Since July of last year, rumors involving Manoel Soares and Patrícia Poeta appeared in the press. The hosts of the Meeting would have had several “disagreements” backstage since the first program, and in front of the cameras, they starred in embarrassing moments, such as passing in front of the camera, hints, interruptions, apologies to each other live and lack of synchrony. .
A moment that had a lot of repercussions occurred at the end of the first program, when the presenters received welcome gifts. Patrícia held the flowers and handed Soares a tray of coxinhas, enough for the situation to be pointed out as structural racism.
For these reasons, Poeta was identified as a possible “pivot” of her colleague’s dismissal, but columnist Carla Bittencourt, from Notícias da TV, says that even the presenter was taken by surprise with Grupo Globo’s decision.
The reason for dismissing Manoel Soares, according to the NTV columnist, was moral harassment. The presenter was the target of complaints for at least two years, and was dismissed by the compliance of the broadcaster, accused of committing harassment backstage and of being ‘inelegant’, ‘loose’ and ‘rough’ with employees, especially women.
Also according to NTV, in 2017, people who worked at the Meeting complained about Manoel Soares directly to Fátima Bernardes, the show’s owner at the time. Three years later, he was transferred to É de Casa, and stayed there until he returned to the Encontro as co-host of Patrícia Poeta, as soon as Fátima Bernardes left the morning show to present The Voice Kids. But the complaints about the journalist’s behavior would have continued and even increased, culminating in his dismissal.
The journalist, who was planning his departure from the Encontro to present a solo program, without imagining that the broadcaster was investigating the allegations against him, would have left Globo in revolt when he was informed of the dismissal, and promised to take the case to court. Sought by NTV, the broadcaster limited itself to informing that it does not comment on matters of compliance.
However, on Instagram, the former presenter published a note two days ago denying all the information that the press has been circulating about his resignation, and stating that the departure took place in agreement with the broadcaster.
