Can you imagine watching your favorite movies and series without paying a monthly fee? Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? But, everything indicates that it has just become reality! Similar to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, a new streaming platform is already working in Brazil. streaming that innovates by being 100% free. In addition to distributing series and movies, Runtime.tv also bets on news in real time, through a partnership with Record News.
The purpose of streamingaccording to CEO Arman Oner, is to stop being a hub exclusively series and movies to also serve a portion of users interested in information consumption. Runtime.tv has been in Brazil for just over a year, and has around 8 million users worldwide, with almost 40% of this audience being Brazilians.
“Our big bet this year is to distribute communication services not only in Brazil, but in other countries. Throughout 2023, we will be adding more brands to the Runtime platform. In Mexico, for example, we have channels from TV Azteca and we add content in Spanish, in partnership with other companies”, reveals Oner.
As the platform is free, one factor that can be questioned is the way it receives money. The answer to that question, according to columnist Julio Wiziack, from Panel SA, is that income comes from advertisements inserted throughout programming. They are displayed at specific times in the playertotaling eight minutes of advertising over an hour of broadcast.
Happy with the charge?
The arrival of Runtime.tv is welcome in Brazil, especially in a scenario where many are dissatisfied with the taxation for sharing subscriptions that Netflix has imposed starting this year. But in the United States, for example, the story seems to be different.
According to the analysis company Antenna, subscriptions to the platform have increased significantly since the announcement of Tudum’s new policy there. After Netflix sent a formal email to its customers, on May 23, communicating the taxation, Antenna registered the days with the highest subscription volumes in the s servicetreaming In the USA.
The company claims that Netflix would have recorded an average of 73,000 daily subscriptions between May 25th and 28th, representing an increase of 102% compared to the previous 60 days.
Despite the positive outlook, cancellations of Netflix plans in that same market have also increased. Also according to Antenna, the ratio of subscriptions to cancellations since May 23 has risen 25.6% compared to the previous 60-day period.
In Brazil, the Consumer Protection and Defense Foundation (Procon) in different states has notified the streaming to understand how this extra charge for sharing passwords will be executed.
