This Thursday (6) premiered in theaters yet another new terror in the ‘Supernatural’ franchise, entitled ‘Supernatural: The Red Door’. The film will see Josh Lambert head east to drop his son, Dalton, off at college, but repressed demons from the past suddenly return to haunt them both. The film, once again, stars Patrick Wilson, and this time also directed by the actor.
It’s amazing how Wilson has reinvented himself and achieved success with two horror franchises. In addition to ‘Supernatural’, there’s also ‘The Conjuring’. For me, they are among the best horror films made in recent times. So, if you want to know (or review) the actor’s films in this genre, here’s the list. All are on HBO Max!
Supernatural (2010)
The Lambert family, formed by Josh (Patrick Wilson), Renai (Rose Byrne) and the children Dalton (Ty Simpkins) and Foster (Andrew Astor), has just moved. Soon, one of the children falls into an inexplicable coma. This makes the parents think that the new house harbors some kind of evil spirit. But they soon move out, and in the following days, they end up discovering that the problem was not in the house, but in the son himself.
Supernatural: Chapter 2 (2013)
The Lambert family is again dealing with a series of supernatural problems and must face the consequences of the events of the first film. As the police investigate the trio’s residence, they head to the home of Lorraine Lambert (Barbara Hershey). But even in their new home, Josh behaves unrecognizably, and Renai is haunted by a strange female figure.
The Conjuring (2013)
A couple (Ron Livinston and Lili Taylor) move into a new house alongside their five daughters. Inexplicably, strange events begin to scare the children, the father, and especially the mother. Worried about some stains that appear on her body and with a sequence of scares that she took, she decides to look for a famous couple of paranormal investigators (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). But, they do not accept the invitation. They believe it’s just another mistake of people terrified of pipes that make noises during the night or things like that.
However, when they pay a visit to the place, they discover that something very powerful and evil resides there. Now, they need to find out what it is and why everything is happening to the members of that family. That’s when the past begins to reveal a demonic entity wanting to continue its path of evil. Based on real facts.
Conjuring 2 (2016)
Paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) land in London, England, to help a troubled family. Peggy (Frances O’Connor), a single mother, believes she has something evil in her home.
The Conjuring 3: Order of the Devil (2021)
The terrifying new adventure begins with the exorcism of a little boy that doesn’t end as it should. The demon ends up entering a boy who kills another man. That’s when the couple Ed and Lorraine Warren have to find out what happened and prove that he was possessed by a demon. The film is based on a true event documented in recordings by the Warren couple.
Bonus!
Patrick Wilson still made small appearances in other films derived from the two franchises. This is the case with ‘Insidious: The Last Key’ (this one is on Netflix) and also with ‘The Nun’ and ‘Annabelle 3: Back Home’.
