That Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are two great rivals, everyone knows. Now, imagine if they could resolve all their differences inside an octagon, in hand-to-hand combat. Well, it looks like this is going to happen. And in the fight between two billionaires, we root for the fight!
The fight between Zuckerberg, owner of Meta, and Musk, owner of Twitter, Tesla and SpaceX, started with a discussion on social networks that seemed like a joke, is getting closer to becoming reality. The “billionaire fight”, as the fight is called in memes across the internet, already has a date to take place. That’s what UFC president Dana White guarantees.
White claims he has very real plans to make the race a reality. There would be few details to be settled among the billionaires. But, the promoter of the fight confirmed, in an interview with the website TSN Sports, that he already has a date in mind.
“100% (Musk and Zuckerberg want to face each other in the UFC). I already have (a date in mind), I’ll announce it when we’re ready”, said the UFC president. But, Dana White denied rumors, stating that the confrontation will not be at UFC 300.
Billionaire Profit for Charity
According to White, the fight between the billionaires should also generate billionaire revenue.
“We will see. What are the obstacles? Whoever refuses to promote the fight, any other (state or country) will say yes. This duel generates revenue of US$ 1 billion (about R$ 4.8 billion)”, maintains the UFC president.
Previously, White had already suggested that the billionaire fight between the rivals had a noble end. The owner of the largest Mixed Martial Arts organization in the world has suggested that Musk and Zuckerberg fight for a charity of their choice.
“I don’t think any of them need the money. These guys would raise hundreds of millions of dollars for charity,” she adds.
At least about the amount of money candidates have, White is right. Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg top the list of billionaires who made the most money in the first six months of 2023. Among the 500 greatest global fortunes, evaluated by the Bloomberg billionaires index, the earnings add up to more than US$ 852 billion, the equivalent of R $4.105 trillion.
Fight in the Colosseum?
Italian authorities offered the historic battlefield of the Colosseum, in Rome (Italy), for the organization of a UFC fight between the CEO of Meta and the owner of Tesla, Twitter and SpaceX. The information is from the TMZ Sports website, which spoke with sources directly involved in the articulations for the clash.
“There is a chance that the fight will take place at the Coliseum,” Musk confirmed via Twitter.
According to the website, the Ministry of Culture of Italy contacted Zuckerberg to suggest holding the “fight of the century” between billionaires in the most legendary gladiatorial arena in history. The CEO of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, relayed the message to UFC boss Dana White, whose team is already in talks with Italian authorities about the viability of the deal.
Fight outside the octagon
O Twitter threatened to sue the giant Meta just hours after the company that also controls Instagram launched Threads, an application with which it hopes to replace the platform owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
In a letter addressed to Meta’s executive director, Mark Zuckerberg, published last Thursday (6) by the news website Semafor, Musk’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, accused the company of “illegal appropriation of Twitter trade secrets and other intellectual properties”. The letter accused Meta of hiring dozens of former employees of Musk’s company who “had and still have access to Twitter’s trade secrets and other highly confidential information.”
In his first tweet in over a decade, Zuckerberg posted a Spider-Man meme pointing to another Spider-Man, in an apparent reference to the similarities between Threads and Twitter.
Threads was launched on Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries at 23:00 GMT (20:00 GMT) last Wednesday (5) and the first comments highlighted a resemblance to Twitter.
