The amount of pizzas delivered by iFood in the whole of last year would fill the places of Maracanã, the biggest stadium in Brazil, two thousand times. Over the past year, orders have passed the 83 million mark, resulting in over 143 million pizzas delivered, equivalent to about five pizzas per second!
The state of São Paulo leads the ranking with more than 30 million requests in the year, followed by Rio de Janeiro, with 10 million. In third place are miners, who made 6 million orders in 2022.
In honor of Pizza Day, celebrated by the people of São Paulo this Monday (10), the app offered Adnews various data on the consumption of this pasta so loved by Brazilians that it even seems like ours! A survey by the Associação Pizzarias Unidas do Brasil (Apubra) points out that, in 15 years, the number of pizzerias in the country grew 603%, going from around 12 thousand to 112 thousand registered establishments. Of these, around 30% (33,605) pizzerias are present on iFood.
Last year, Pizza Day was celebrated on a Sunday, and the commercial appeal of the occasion caused sales to increase by 7% compared to a conventional Sunday.
As Brazilians know what’s good, orders for pizza at delivery grow every year. An iFood comparison between the first half of 2022 and the same period this year points out that there was a 5% increase in orders for this delight!
“This growth is important for the platform, so that we can offer more and more diversity and options of establishments in all corners of the country. For this reason, we constantly support the development of partners so that they grow with iFood”, reinforces Arnaldo Bertolaccini, Director of Customer Experience.
Dinner is the moment when consumers bet most on the practicality of pizza delivered at home. Saturdays and Sundays are the days with the highest number of requests, followed by weekdays. Weekday lunches rank third on the delivery list, followed by weekend late nights.
And it has something for everyone! data of app show that restaurants are creative when it comes to creating flavours, which are true meals. There’s pizza from Beef and cream filet mignon, shrimp with picanha, sun-dried meat, carpaccio and even fillet with straw potatoes! And there’s also dessert: brownie topped with powdered milk and hazelnut cream, strawberry and confetti, and coconut with condensed milk are on the list of unconventional flavors available to the Brazilian public.
And don’t think that the consumer is satisfied with just one flavor on the plate. The preferred order is with two flavors, and the ‘pizza + soda’ combo is among the favorites in appas it is also more economical than when items are purchased separately.
To increase, the platform registers some flavors of borders, including some very Brazilian inventions available, such as creamy cheese, cheddar, cottage cheese, Italian border/knee/cigarrete and sweets, with chocolate and dulce de leche. So, is there a pizza today?
