Buzzmonitor analyzed the figures that appeared the most on social media between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023
On July 17th, International Emoji Day is celebrated and, to celebrate it, Buzzmonitor carried out a survey that points out which figures stood out the most between July 1st, 2022 and June 30th, 2023.
According to the analysis, there were almost 1.3 billion occurrences in this period, with the most used emoji being the heart, with 61.7 million appearances. The red heart was the first emoji created in 1995.
In addition to red, the study pointed out that there were also variations in the use of emoji, but with other colors, with more than one heart and hearts inserted in faces. The theme was the most highlighted and love had just under 197 million occurrences in the form of emojis, with the presence of hearts in total.
Faces were the second most popular category of emojis, with 133 million total occurrences. The smiley faces serve to reinforce the feeling of the message and also to generate everything from drama to reading intonation.
The survey also highlighted emojis that help readers organize content and find the information they are looking for. The figures in this category have the main function of being used as bullets in a list, such as the check (), the little hands ( and ) or the arrows (), but they also serve the purpose of quickly searching for information, such as the telephone ( ) or location () of what is said, or the critical part of the message ().
Among the analyzed emojis, some do not fit into a single category, such as, for example, the little fire (), which can be used as a statement, as a flirt, to say that something is trending or simply to indicate that something is hot.
Other emojis that stood out were hands in prayer () and applause (), inserted as a symbol of gratitude and recognition, respectively.
