Fans of Amanda Meirelles and Antônio Cara de Sapato held a campaign this Wednesday (19) to promote videos of BBB 23 participants in Times Square, one of the main tourist spots in New York. On Thursday (20), it was the turn of Clara (Regiane Alves) and Helena (Priscila Sztejnman), from the soap opera Vai na Fé, to be shown on a New York billboard. Now imagine if we, mere mortals, could have a few seconds with our face exposed in one of the most famous tourist spots in the world.
Launched in December 2022, the TSX app made room for the exposure of anonymous figures. For just $40 (R$191.91 at current exchange rates), ordinary people can appear on a billboard and earn their 15 seconds of fame in Times Square. The “square” receives around 330,000 people daily and is a reference for American advertising.
Due to their marketing content, Times Square buildings are required to install luminous signs for advertising purposes. Amid disputes for consumer attention, a construction stands out by distancing itself from the commercial purpose of the region.
The TSX Broadway, a skyscraper that houses stores, a hotel and a theater, launched the PixelStar program, which allows anyone to post videos on its billboard – as happened with Amanda and Sapato and Clara and Helena.
To have your content displayed locally, you need to download the TSX application. The user uploads the video to the platform and schedules a time for it to be shown. Broadcast costs $40, at other Times Square billboards a company can shell out at least $500.
The record must last 15 seconds and, through the platform, it is possible to add text to the display. Due to the proposal to go against the advertising spirit of the area, some rules must be followed.
Videos that have links or URLs, QR codes, phone numbers, political or religious messages, and copyrighted content are prohibited. The dissemination of products and brands is also prohibited. The promotion of profiles on social networks is allowed. All uploaded videos are analyzed by both humans and artificial intelligence.
