Famous Canadian singer Neil Young will be removed from the Spotify after an ideologically based request. The decision came after the artist asked to have his songs removed from the platform if a controversial podcast by Joe Rogan with comments against vaccination remained on the air.
“We want all the world’s music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes a great responsibility to balance the safety of listeners and the freedom of creators.”
Neil Young posted on his official channels saying that Spotify was spreading false information about vaccines to the public, potentially causing death and serious sequelae as a result.
“I want you to let Spotify know right away TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” Young said in his post, according to Rolling Stone. “They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”
The artist is also not the only one. In early January, approximately 250 scientists and healthcare professionals signed an open letter to Spotify claiming that Rogan’s podcast should contain a disinformation label.
